No More Monkeys Jumping On the Bed [Open]

Characters: An unwanted guest...and you
Content: BOSS BATTLE
Location: Fifth District Greenhouse
Time: Evening
Warnings: Violence. It’s a boss battle, guys. C’mon.

My, the Fifth District is nice this evening, isn’t it? Whether you’re just passing through or going Nightmare-hunting, you can’t deny that that greenhouse is a lovely feat of architecture. It might even distract you from the fact that you haven’t been attacked by Nightmares at all since you entered the district; an oddity, given that this area is usually very Nightmare-prone.

The peace and quiet doesn’t last long, however. There’s a rattle and an unholy screech undercut by the cacophony of shattering glass, and the greenhouse roof explodes outwards. You cover your face and turn away, waiting for the glass to settle before heading towards it. No matter whether you jump down from the broken roof or head in via the doorway, you’re greeted with the same sight: the upper half of a giant multicolored monkey. It screeches again; obviously it’s not happy to see you, and it’s about to make that known. Rearing back, it takes a swing at you with one massive paw.

Good luck.

[OOC: Welcome to your first boss fight! This is Hockomonkey and he doesn’t like you. Hockomonkey will be controlled by the mods, who will also determine (via dice roll - we’re kicking it D&D style) whether attacks land and how much damage they’ll do. We’ll keep the technical stuff on the back end - just write like you normally would. There is no tag order in this thread; however, we do ask that you keep up a relatively quick tagging pace, especially if your character teams up with any others for joint attacks or strategies.]

This was getting a little bit ridiculous.

Emizel shot a fireball at one of the remaining hands that was right around to grab him, hopefully just enough to at least stun it for a moment so he could escape from it.

"Come on," he gestured to Moxie to follow him while they tried to make their way further inside the greenhouse, to seek out where the main body of that Nightmare went. It'll probably just keep toying them with more floating hands until someone did after all. He will just have to watch out for anything else coming his way while he did.

So, she was late. Taking a second to assess the situation, Ziva sighed. This was going to be a little insane. One thing that caught her eye though was the fact that Namine was there. What the hell? She was going to have a little talk with her later. (And possibly try to teach her some fighting skills.)

"Get between them and that...thing!" She shouted at Abby, who went off as quickly as possibly to get between the Nightmare's hand and Wash and Namine. And let it be pound to dust if it pisses her off. Clicking a clip into her side arm, she and Fluffy took an outside route to try to catch up to them, and make sure that for the moment they were all right.

Even with her Glider, it had taken Aqua some time to extract herself from the fight she'd already been in long enough to make for the fifth district. Unsurprisingly, then, she was more than a little late to the fight. As such, while she was fairly certain the giant hands hand something to do with the Nightmare that had been mentioned, it was still an odd sight to see.

Then again, it wasn't all that much stranger than fighting animated shoes, and after a brief moment of silence, she stepped into the fight proper, summoning her Keyblade before sending a blast of lightning at the nearest hand.

Tumble jumped away, thankful for still having his powers, even the simple ones like his natural jumping ability. But, as he hadn't eaten before rushing here, he needed to try and be smart with his energy. He wasn't running low, but enough that both his shield and proper mobility in flight weren't happening.

Flap swooped in and tried to attack from a side, using its tackling attack to try and land a blow. At the same time, Tumble used his breath attach, his body expanding before he exhaled the damaging pink mist.

If it wasn't one thing, it was another. While it was pretty cool that his crazy idea had somehow worked, it wasn't overly helpful that there were still more hands to deal with and also still no sign of the Nightmare's body.

And then Namine showed up. What was she thinking?! Not that he any time to do more than take note of her presence. He still had a giant, disembodied hand trying to make him a splat on the side of an uprooted tree. And every time it missed him it either created an indent in the floor or an indent in a wall. The indents in the wall were the ones that worried Sora. Given enough damage, they'd come down. He needed take the hand out. Or at least get it to drop the tree. Setting on fire would be out of the question, but...

It was a long shot, he had seen trees split into two or more pieces by lightning strikes. Logic, when he bothered to poke it, dictated that a good Thunder spell ought to do the same. And even if he didn't get the tree, his Thundaga should still hit the hand, damaging it or taking it out if he was lucky.

"Yes! Gooooo Mako Jr!"

Bolin might be celebrating too soon though since that other hand is closing in on him. He was about to go check on the others in the fight, but he can't do that with the hand blocking his escape route. Ping pounced, or perhaps more accurately bounced, at the assaulting hand just as Bolin was turning to notice it coming for him.

Gah! You've gotta focus Bolin, he told himself, hoping he wasn't too late in launching a large rock at the bodiless hand.

Luna tumbled through the air with a sharp gasp as the hand strikes her mid-air. Luckily, it was a poor blow, and she was more thrown off-balance than actually hurt; she recovered her bearings just in time to keep from hitting what little remains of the roof. Looking up, she saw the hand already coming in for another shot at her, with Noctis fluttering angrily behind and screeching, trying his best to drain the hand.

If she dodged now, the hand would likely just hit the greenhouse. It might even bring the entire structure down. Luna snorted and flew straight up at it instead, summoning her shield spell again and letting the air resistance mold the magic into a point, like a lance.

Below, Ursa was finally coming upon the scene of the battle. The Kooma Panda blinked calmly at the chaotic scene laid out before her, her gaze settling for a second on Bolin as the Earthbender defended himself with a hastily-thrown boulder. Ursa rubbed a claw idly over her ear, then leaned down and ripped up a huge chunk of earth herself, flinging it at the hand attacking Bolin as well.

Ienzo sighed internally. This battle was a huge mess; they'd clearly have to work out a system of fighting together, rather than a melee like this if they were going to do it again. He was recalled to what was important by the hands that were rapidly approaching him and Aeleus again.

He frowned darkly and moved to dodge, sending a strong blizzard spell at the hand; hopefully even if the initial spell missed it would be able to home in on the target. He was distracted momentarily by a commotion at the doors as Namine arrived. He was going to have to speak with her about this at length. Later.

Curling into a ball when the glancing hit landed, Tails let himself drop to the ground before quickly moving under the balcony and looking to where he'd seen Xion last. "Blaze, try to help Axel!"

The Hebby Repp didn't need to be told twice and ran for the other Spirit, attempting to distract the hand that had flattened Axel by attacking it.

[personal profile] skysmirror 2012-12-14 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Axel!" If Xion had been given time to think, she would have possibly taken a moment to reflect on the fact that this was why giving a Spirit the name of one your best friends was a bad idea. The thought would have to be saved for later, though, since Axel was in danger unless she acted quickly.

Even before Tails sent Blaze over, she'd cast Blizzaga at the hand to drive it off and was running to help the Hebby Repp. Fortunately, she was in time to heal him with Curaga, and Blaze's distraction helped her buy the time to do so.

Even elected to ignore the hand battering ineffectually at his shield. His Pricklemane appeared to have the matter under control for the moment. The noise closer to the doors drew his attention briefly, but at this range, with so many friendly targets getting in each other's way, any spell he sent would be more likely to harm than help. If so many people couldn't handle it, that was their problem.

He had other priorities. A Blizzaga focus crystal formed over his free hand. With a flick of his wrist, he sent it in a long, precise arc toward the hand attacking Aeleus.

Taking a moment for a nod of thanks to Washington, Namine ran for the nearest place that looked like it could provide some cover from the hands. Spot stayed with her, ready to use Vanish again if needed but glad for a moment's rest. Batty, meanwhile, decided to see if his sound attack could work against these hands. If it worked against other Nightmares when they were whole, then it should work against just a part of them.

Once she was reasonably out of the way, she looked around to take stock of the fight. She couldn't do much to fight the Nightmare physically, but she did have her potions if someone needed one, and she'd managed to learn enough magic to cast a decent Cure. While she wasn't up to the same level as some of the others, she could at least try to heal them enough to buy them time to heal themselves.

With the pair of blizzard spells homing in on the hands, Aeleus knew better than to try and rush the hands again. No, it was better to stay where he was, and not risk getting in the path of the spells. This was hardly the time to see if his previous immunity to ice-based spells still held.

Of course, it did mean that his primary method of attacking was now barred, but for all that Aeleus didn't often use his element, it was still his to control. The fact that the hands seem to be more prone to float than remain solidly on the ground, but even that isn't too much trouble as he slams the point of his axesword against the ground. In answer to his summons, a pair of largish rocks rise from the ground, before heading in the direction of the hands still threatening both him and Ienzo.

They shatter into smaller pieces as they draw near, each still large enough to significant damage, and each still headed for the hand the boulder they'd come from had been heading for.

Wash fired another burst at the hand that had evidently decided to follow Namine - how many of these did the goddamn monkey have? He paused for a moment when the bear showed up; it was the right colors and he could hear Ziva directing it, which meant it was an ally. He took that moment to look around, just catching sight of Namine as she ducked behind cover, and he indicated her silently to Fang. The bat wheeled around and hovered near her cover, ready to provide extra protection if need be. That accomplished, he edged out from behind Ziva's bear and fired a few more rounds at the hand, intending to bring it down. The sooner they could clear out all these hands, the better.

It was a good thing Xion had learned to roll with hard hits. Still cradling Axel (who, though revived, still wasn't feeling his best), she did what she could to take the brunt of the blow herself. After sparing a Cura for herself, she ordered Barkley behind her and set a Firaga after the hand. That was enough time for Axel to recover a little more fully and jump out of her arms to add a few fireballs of his own. Both hands free, Xion stood and summoned her Keyblade. If the hand came back, she'd be ready for it.

Namine was happy to see Fang, then gasped in alarm when she saw how many others were injured. It looked like her ability with Cure spells was going to be tested, but she could only help one person at a time. Wash was closest, and had been hurt trying to help her...decision made, she cast the strongest Cure she could on him.

Leaving Blaze to help Xion the best it could, the Hebby Repp red with anger and still spitting fireballs, Tails focused on Sora and his hand. There was not much he could do to help Xion without getting in the way, but he could try to at the very least distract the tree-wielder.

Curling up, he quickling performed a spin dash attack, hoping to catch the hand off guard and/or change its target to him instead.

Tumble would have liked the chance to celebrate having done good work so soon, but there just wasn't time yet. He hadn't been hit yet, but others had and looked like they could use some help.

Spotting Aqua, he ran over to her and drained some of his stomach's energy to restore her health as he moved between her and the hand in case it attacked again. The energy manifested as a bundle of almost smoky sparkles that swirled around her as the magic worked. "Are you okay?"

Flap had followed him, but tried to attack the hand with its confusing waves.

Even smirked in satisfaction as the hands disappeared, a moment which was swiftly interrupted by the hand still bothering him as it battered itself against his shield. Annoyed, Even attempted to batter it right back.

He cast his eyes around the battlefield, trying to take in the situation as much as possible. It mostly looked like chaos, but there were fewer hands around than there had been.

Late was better than never, right? Ven had been delayed by his own fight with Nightmares in the Fourth District, then healing the wounds Linka had picked up when she misaimed and flew right into a couple of them. He'd have to do something about her sense of direction soon, but for the moment, it could wait. Because he had his own hair-brained stunt to pull.

His entrance to the fight wasn't intended to be dramatic, but in his case the easiest way to get into the greenhouse was by flight - through the roof, namely all the broken glass still clinging to the struts. Ven shot through them head-first, picking up a few scrapes from lingering shards but not enough to cause him any worry, Linka right behind him as she flew rapidly with Wheeler in her little hook-feet, the Hebby more or less steering the Bat so they didn't crash into anything. Pulling out of his dive close to the ground, Ven hit roughly the center of the floor feet-first in a crouch, setting off his Faith spell as he did. The cuts he'd acquired from the glass were healed by the spell, but more importantly to him it had a pretty large area-of-effect and could give enemies a good battering. Whatever was going on here, those things needed to not be around. Wheeler landed next to him, ready to take on anything and powering up to shoot a fireball - at least until Linka bounced off him, knocking both Spirits to the ground in a tumble.

Now unmenaced by his own opponent, Ienzo headed towards Emizel, casting a cure spell for him. This was complete chaos, but it appeared they were making progress, at least against the hands. "Aeleus," he called, "we'll have to pay attention; the main body is still missing." When it came back - which it doubtless would - they would have to finish it quickly. They were taking too much damage to sustain this.

Once the hand was gone, Bolin let out another whoop of excitement. The others might have thought this was going terribly, but Bolin thought they were doing fairly well all things considered.

He looked over to the Kooma Panda who had jumped in to help, recognizing it quickly as Ursa, Luna's panda. He then looked up for Luna and quickly found her taking out her own hand. The other hands were too far away for him to hit with a boulder but Bolin was already running towards the closest one to help reduce the numbers.

"Hey Luna! See any sign of the head or the torso yet?"

He'd seen it disappear and he knew all these hands had to be coming from SOMEwhere. Ping waggled its tail in readiness for another fight and Mako Jr skittered back up to Bolin's shoulder.

Luna whinnied briefly in triumph as the hand vanished, but there was little time for celebration. Below, some of the ground troops were clearly having trouble, and Ventus's arrival gave her even more to worry about. Signaling Noctis, the alicorn wheeled about to follow her charge down to the ground.

"Bolin! And Ursa!" Luna blinked bemusedly as the bear Spirit ignored her greeting, leaning down to heft another boulder at the hand facing off against Xion. "We hath not seen the body for some time!" Rearing she summoned a few bolts of lightning to strike at the hand that had just hit Agent Washington, her voice easily rising above the thunder and chaos. "It may show itself again if its hands are vanquished! Noctis, look to Sora!" Chattering, the bat obediently flew off, zipping in to try to confuse the hand menacing Sora with his harsh sonic waves. Luna would have liked to send him to keep an eye on Ventus...but he was not under attack at the moment. The already-wounded had to take priority.
