No More Monkeys Jumping On the Bed [Open]

Characters: An unwanted guest...and you
Content: BOSS BATTLE
Location: Fifth District Greenhouse
Time: Evening
Warnings: Violence. It’s a boss battle, guys. C’mon.

My, the Fifth District is nice this evening, isn’t it? Whether you’re just passing through or going Nightmare-hunting, you can’t deny that that greenhouse is a lovely feat of architecture. It might even distract you from the fact that you haven’t been attacked by Nightmares at all since you entered the district; an oddity, given that this area is usually very Nightmare-prone.

The peace and quiet doesn’t last long, however. There’s a rattle and an unholy screech undercut by the cacophony of shattering glass, and the greenhouse roof explodes outwards. You cover your face and turn away, waiting for the glass to settle before heading towards it. No matter whether you jump down from the broken roof or head in via the doorway, you’re greeted with the same sight: the upper half of a giant multicolored monkey. It screeches again; obviously it’s not happy to see you, and it’s about to make that known. Rearing back, it takes a swing at you with one massive paw.

Good luck.

[OOC: Welcome to your first boss fight! This is Hockomonkey and he doesn’t like you. Hockomonkey will be controlled by the mods, who will also determine (via dice roll - we’re kicking it D&D style) whether attacks land and how much damage they’ll do. We’ll keep the technical stuff on the back end - just write like you normally would. There is no tag order in this thread; however, we do ask that you keep up a relatively quick tagging pace, especially if your character teams up with any others for joint attacks or strategies.]

"Yes! Gooooo Mako Jr!"

Bolin might be celebrating too soon though since that other hand is closing in on him. He was about to go check on the others in the fight, but he can't do that with the hand blocking his escape route. Ping pounced, or perhaps more accurately bounced, at the assaulting hand just as Bolin was turning to notice it coming for him.

Gah! You've gotta focus Bolin, he told himself, hoping he wasn't too late in launching a large rock at the bodiless hand.

Luna tumbled through the air with a sharp gasp as the hand strikes her mid-air. Luckily, it was a poor blow, and she was more thrown off-balance than actually hurt; she recovered her bearings just in time to keep from hitting what little remains of the roof. Looking up, she saw the hand already coming in for another shot at her, with Noctis fluttering angrily behind and screeching, trying his best to drain the hand.

If she dodged now, the hand would likely just hit the greenhouse. It might even bring the entire structure down. Luna snorted and flew straight up at it instead, summoning her shield spell again and letting the air resistance mold the magic into a point, like a lance.

Below, Ursa was finally coming upon the scene of the battle. The Kooma Panda blinked calmly at the chaotic scene laid out before her, her gaze settling for a second on Bolin as the Earthbender defended himself with a hastily-thrown boulder. Ursa rubbed a claw idly over her ear, then leaned down and ripped up a huge chunk of earth herself, flinging it at the hand attacking Bolin as well.

Ienzo sighed internally. This battle was a huge mess; they'd clearly have to work out a system of fighting together, rather than a melee like this if they were going to do it again. He was recalled to what was important by the hands that were rapidly approaching him and Aeleus again.

He frowned darkly and moved to dodge, sending a strong blizzard spell at the hand; hopefully even if the initial spell missed it would be able to home in on the target. He was distracted momentarily by a commotion at the doors as Namine arrived. He was going to have to speak with her about this at length. Later.

Curling into a ball when the glancing hit landed, Tails let himself drop to the ground before quickly moving under the balcony and looking to where he'd seen Xion last. "Blaze, try to help Axel!"

The Hebby Repp didn't need to be told twice and ran for the other Spirit, attempting to distract the hand that had flattened Axel by attacking it.

"Axel!" If Xion had been given time to think, she would have possibly taken a moment to reflect on the fact that this was why giving a Spirit the name of one your best friends was a bad idea. The thought would have to be saved for later, though, since Axel was in danger unless she acted quickly.

Even before Tails sent Blaze over, she'd cast Blizzaga at the hand to drive it off and was running to help the Hebby Repp. Fortunately, she was in time to heal him with Curaga, and Blaze's distraction helped her buy the time to do so.

Even elected to ignore the hand battering ineffectually at his shield. His Pricklemane appeared to have the matter under control for the moment. The noise closer to the doors drew his attention briefly, but at this range, with so many friendly targets getting in each other's way, any spell he sent would be more likely to harm than help. If so many people couldn't handle it, that was their problem.

He had other priorities. A Blizzaga focus crystal formed over his free hand. With a flick of his wrist, he sent it in a long, precise arc toward the hand attacking Aeleus.

Taking a moment for a nod of thanks to Washington, Namine ran for the nearest place that looked like it could provide some cover from the hands. Spot stayed with her, ready to use Vanish again if needed but glad for a moment's rest. Batty, meanwhile, decided to see if his sound attack could work against these hands. If it worked against other Nightmares when they were whole, then it should work against just a part of them.

Once she was reasonably out of the way, she looked around to take stock of the fight. She couldn't do much to fight the Nightmare physically, but she did have her potions if someone needed one, and she'd managed to learn enough magic to cast a decent Cure. While she wasn't up to the same level as some of the others, she could at least try to heal them enough to buy them time to heal themselves.

With the pair of blizzard spells homing in on the hands, Aeleus knew better than to try and rush the hands again. No, it was better to stay where he was, and not risk getting in the path of the spells. This was hardly the time to see if his previous immunity to ice-based spells still held.

Of course, it did mean that his primary method of attacking was now barred, but for all that Aeleus didn't often use his element, it was still his to control. The fact that the hands seem to be more prone to float than remain solidly on the ground, but even that isn't too much trouble as he slams the point of his axesword against the ground. In answer to his summons, a pair of largish rocks rise from the ground, before heading in the direction of the hands still threatening both him and Ienzo.

They shatter into smaller pieces as they draw near, each still large enough to significant damage, and each still headed for the hand the boulder they'd come from had been heading for.

Wash fired another burst at the hand that had evidently decided to follow Namine - how many of these did the goddamn monkey have? He paused for a moment when the bear showed up; it was the right colors and he could hear Ziva directing it, which meant it was an ally. He took that moment to look around, just catching sight of Namine as she ducked behind cover, and he indicated her silently to Fang. The bat wheeled around and hovered near her cover, ready to provide extra protection if need be. That accomplished, he edged out from behind Ziva's bear and fired a few more rounds at the hand, intending to bring it down. The sooner they could clear out all these hands, the better.
