No More Monkeys Jumping On the Bed [Open]
Characters: An unwanted guest...and you
Content: BOSS BATTLE
Location: Fifth District Greenhouse
Time: Evening
Warnings: Violence. It’s a boss battle, guys. C’mon.
My, the Fifth District is nice this evening, isn’t it? Whether you’re just passing through or going Nightmare-hunting, you can’t deny that that greenhouse is a lovely feat of architecture. It might even distract you from the fact that you haven’t been attacked by Nightmares at all since you entered the district; an oddity, given that this area is usually very Nightmare-prone.
The peace and quiet doesn’t last long, however. There’s a rattle and an unholy screech undercut by the cacophony of shattering glass, and the greenhouse roof explodes outwards. You cover your face and turn away, waiting for the glass to settle before heading towards it. No matter whether you jump down from the broken roof or head in via the doorway, you’re greeted with the same sight: the upper half of a giant multicolored monkey. It screeches again; obviously it’s not happy to see you, and it’s about to make that known. Rearing back, it takes a swing at you with one massive paw.
Good luck.
[OOC: Welcome to your first boss fight! This is Hockomonkey and he doesn’t like you. Hockomonkey will be controlled by the mods, who will also determine (via dice roll - we’re kicking it D&D style) whether attacks land and how much damage they’ll do. We’ll keep the technical stuff on the back end - just write like you normally would. There is no tag order in this thread; however, we do ask that you keep up a relatively quick tagging pace, especially if your character teams up with any others for joint attacks or strategies.]

Curling up, he quickling performed a spin dash attack, hoping to catch the hand off guard and/or change its target to him instead.

Spotting Aqua, he ran over to her and drained some of his stomach's energy to restore her health as he moved between her and the hand in case it attacked again. The energy manifested as a bundle of almost smoky sparkles that swirled around her as the magic worked. "Are you okay?"
Flap had followed him, but tried to attack the hand with its confusing waves.

He cast his eyes around the battlefield, trying to take in the situation as much as possible. It mostly looked like chaos, but there were fewer hands around than there had been.

His entrance to the fight wasn't intended to be dramatic, but in his case the easiest way to get into the greenhouse was by flight - through the roof, namely all the broken glass still clinging to the struts. Ven shot through them head-first, picking up a few scrapes from lingering shards but not enough to cause him any worry, Linka right behind him as she flew rapidly with Wheeler in her little hook-feet, the Hebby more or less steering the Bat so they didn't crash into anything. Pulling out of his dive close to the ground, Ven hit roughly the center of the floor feet-first in a crouch, setting off his Faith spell as he did. The cuts he'd acquired from the glass were healed by the spell, but more importantly to him it had a pretty large area-of-effect and could give enemies a good battering. Whatever was going on here, those things needed to not be around. Wheeler landed next to him, ready to take on anything and powering up to shoot a fireball - at least until Linka bounced off him, knocking both Spirits to the ground in a tumble.

He looked over to the Kooma Panda who had jumped in to help, recognizing it quickly as Ursa, Luna's panda. He then looked up for Luna and quickly found her taking out her own hand. The other hands were too far away for him to hit with a boulder but Bolin was already running towards the closest one to help reduce the numbers.
"Hey Luna! See any sign of the head or the torso yet?"
He'd seen it disappear and he knew all these hands had to be coming from SOMEwhere. Ping waggled its tail in readiness for another fight and Mako Jr skittered back up to Bolin's shoulder.

"Bolin! And Ursa!" Luna blinked bemusedly as the bear Spirit ignored her greeting, leaning down to heft another boulder at the hand facing off against Xion. "We hath not seen the body for some time!" Rearing she summoned a few bolts of lightning to strike at the hand that had just hit Agent Washington, her voice easily rising above the thunder and chaos. "It may show itself again if its hands are vanquished! Noctis, look to Sora!" Chattering, the bat obediently flew off, zipping in to try to confuse the hand menacing Sora with his harsh sonic waves. Luna would have liked to send him to keep an eye on Ventus...but he was not under attack at the moment. The already-wounded had to take priority.

Magic didn't seem to be getting him anywhere. Not offensively anyway. He was about to try a more direct approach when Tails dropped in, striking at the hand with some kind of spinning attack. This was not a good place for the little fox, but any lectures would have to wait.
Now what, though? Ven's entrance provided a needed bit of healing and another ally on the field, and Nocits was a welcome help as well. Sighing, Sora decided he was better off going with is previous plan and taking the direct approach, that being an all out physical onslaught. The tree was still a worry, but it was a risk he'd have to take. He called on Bruce and Jelly Bean to also focus more powerful attacks on the hand. The sooner they took it down, the sooner they could help someone else and the sooner the body would have to reappear.

"Understood," he called back to Ienzo, before turning to ensure that Even was similarly safe. There were few enough hands left that he could afford that much time, and it was certainly better than trying to figure out which of the hands still needed his attention.

Wash had just barely raised his rifle to firing position when the hand flew at him, getting under his guard and punching him hard in the stomach. Given the damn thing was nearly as big as his chest, the blow sent him tumbling backwards end over end. He managed to roll to his feet and staggered backwards, thrown off by momentum and dizziness and the fact that he couldn't quite breathe right - the hit had knocked the wind out of him. He forced himself to stay upright, tried to keep breathing and keep an eye on the hand at the same time. He saw the ping on the edge of his HUD as his healing unit kicked in; that should take care of whatever damage the hand had caused, at least.
His eyes widened as the soft green light appeared before him. It faded just as quickly as it had come, and evidently took his injuries with it: he could breathe, his head had cleared, and nothing hurt. It was as though the hit had never landed.
The swiftly evident downside to this was that the healing unit took a few seconds to calibrate; it hadn't yet had the chance to take this unexpected turn of events into account, and the painkillers it was still pumping into his bloodstream, in the absence of any pain to kill, dimmed the edges of his awareness instead.
Terrible luck. Yeah.
He noticed a few others closing in on the hand going after him and he took himself out of the line of fire. He needed the extra few seconds for the healing unit to calibrate again, and he couldn't risk hitting any of his allies like this. A sideways glance told him that Namine was still okay. There was something to be said for small favors, at least.

It turns out the hand attacking Sora can't stand up to Tails' spin dash attack, and it is destroyed as well.
As for the other hands...as it turns out, Faith is a highly effective spell, especially when its targets are already weakened. The remaining three hands are destroyed in the wake of the spell.
Only then does the main body reappear, arriving in the dead center of the room about ten feet off the ground. It simply hangs there, seemingly comatose. This could be an opportunity for a good counterattack. Better be quick, though, before it wakes up.
