4. Party Rock Anthem

Bolin, with the help of Spirits, Moogles, and various other people had finally finished setting up the party. There were tables laden with different kinds of food of course and decorations everywhere. They'd made sure to clear a space for dancing and Perry the Platypus had volunteered to DJ with some equipment borrowed from the moogles for the night. Bolin wished there could be more people so they could have games and stuff like a proper street festival...but for what he had he felt it was pretty good.

Now they just needed people to show up for the fun.

"I've seen North wandering around, but not much of Wash. I don't think this is everyone trapped here - I definitely haven't seen Even - but it's most of the people." It was interesting to see them all out; they really were a weird bunch if you looked at everyone together.

"Evan?" The name rang no bells for Carolina, but she nodded once he'd finished, turning to look around them again. It seemed odd, that several from their world were here, moreso than from others. No sign of Wyoming, however - which was for the best, really.

Mingling seemed the most open option for the moment; she wasn't sure what to make of the music selection just yet, either, though it was certainly better than the selection that had blasted in Club Errera. "No spirits with you today?"

"He's the guy who makes potions," York said. "I don't know if you met him yet." York shrugged and looked around. "I think they're around somewhere; they don't like to let me out on my lonesome. I told them to go get something to eat, though, so I probably won't see them for a while."

"The name isn't familiar." Meaning she hadn't witnessed one of his famed temper tantrums on the network. Yet. Always a 'Yet' with Even. "Dax disappeared without any prompting, so I'd imagine they'll find each other long before they find us."

Two adults left without any spirit supervision. (Unless one counted Delta.) This could only end terribly.

"You'll know him when you meet him," York assured her. "How have you been getting along with everyone here?"

Her head canted to one side, before Carolina simply shrugged. She'd take his word on that one. "Distantly, without much interaction unless I have to," she replied honestly to his question. With the exception of the day she arrived, she'd been quite polite, really.

Except to Luna. But Luna hadn't exactly made a good impression on her, either.

"Don't want to make friends?" That wouldn't be weird for Carolina as he last remembered her, but he'd hoped she'd...started adjusting better, after everything happened.

Oh York. That was far too hopeful a thought for her sake.

A shrug of defined shoulders followed. "I haven't had any reason to." Beyond renewing those of old, and the company of her dream eater, the only real branches out she'd made have been Ziva, and to a lesser extent, the kids who answered her query about the Whatever on the MoI.

"Making friends is its own reward. Especially if they can buy ammo for you," York added, grinning at her. Really, at least everything with that seemed to be working out okay now.

They were all grateful that the markup on ammo pricing had finally been dropped. Still.. She huffed at him, eyes twinkling. "So which of your friends did you have buying ammo for you instead, then?"

"Hey, I didn't need a go between. I just used my charm and a lot of begging. Somehow I end up doing that a lot..." Not just with moogles. It just tended to work better with humans, for some reason.

THAT earned a mock scowl and an elbow directed at York's ribs. "Your charm certainly needs work," Carolina sniffed, and kept any hint of a genuine sulk out of her voice. Instead, she widened her stride a little to pull ahead of York. All the begging certainly worked out in the end, though, didn't it?

York grinned and picked up his pace to keep up with her. "I'll have to keep it up then, won't I?" Or start.

You mean you stopped?

...is what she doesn't say. Her lips pursed a moment, but even that didn't quite keep the edges of a smile from working their way to the corners of her mouth in answer to his grin. It probably wasn't wise to encourage him further, even if this was just a dream, one that didn't leave her running on fumes of rage.

"50 minutes," is what she opted to say instead, Carolina mindful of her own set time limit.

"I'll buy you an ice cream," York offered. "Too bad this place doesn't have a ferris wheel, huh?" Perfect fair dates always had to have ferris wheels. He'd deal with not-perfect.

What was it with this dream realm and ice cream?

York was not in fact the first to make this offer, but she wasn't going to decline: she shrugged her left shoulder. "..Haven't had ice cream in a long time." No surprise there. "Any flavour you recommend?"

As for the wheel, Carolina simply blinked, before looking away. "Couldn't say. Never been on one." So there wasn't much to miss, from her perspective.

There was so much to miss and someday, he hoped they'd find a ferris wheel here. There was always a chance, anyway. "I like chocolate myself. Local specialty is sea salt ice cream; people treat it like it's addictive or something."

The contents of a new world was a bit like spinning the wheel of fortune - who knew what would come up next? Maybe it would be prankster's paradise next time.

"Sea salt? And ice cream?" That did not sound like a pleasant combination to Carolina, and she frowned before shaking her head dismissively. Chocolate was certain to be the tastier alternative. "Lead the way."

"It's a salty-sweet combo that is apparently really popular." York shrugged. "I don't pretend to get it." He headed down to the ice cream stand that Roxas had been watching earlier. It looked like the moogles were keeping it going now.

"I think I'll pass," for now. Living dangerously might have been one of the many Freelancer accidental mottos in life, but Carolina didn't particularly care to experiment while at the first party she'd been to in...in...

...In far too long. She shoved the thought aside irritably, and turned to follow after York. At least the moogles had stopped hiding from her now: it would make things easier in the long run.

York got a chocolate ice cream - it was a cup, apparently the options were cup or bar. "What flavor do you want, then? Or do you not want any at all?"

"Passing on that flavour, not ice cream," Carolina clarified. No take-backs, York. Cup seemed the cleaner option, in her eyes, and she lingered over her choice a minute, before pointing at the strawberry bucket once she had the moogle's attention.

"I can get it." York paid for both of them. She could get the next one if she wanted, but he just wanted to do something nice and simple for her.

"You sure?" Not that ice cream cost very much, in the grand scheme of things. Carolina side-eyed him thoughtfully as she accepted the cup and plastic spoon, before nodding her thanks to the Moogles. Her head tilted to the right, shoulder following suit, unspoken comment broadcast at him; you didn't have to do that, you know.

"How's yours?"

York shrugged in answer to the unspoken comment. Friends did nice things for each other, didn't they? "Pretty good. Not surprising; all the food tends to be pretty good here."
