Dreaming Wide Awake [Fourth Wall/Open]

Who: Everyone! Current characters, fourth wall characters, whoever wants to show up.
What: The portals are closed. Everyone's in Traverse Town, including a whole bunch of new people. This should be interesting.
Where: Traverse Town
When: Throughout the day
Warnings: Depends on the characters. Expect language at least.

You didn't expect to be here. You really didn't. The technicolor buildings are a surprise, as is the little white flying bear telling you you're in the dream world. He gives you a bag full of what looks to be currency, enough shiny things to create a creature of your own (or so he says), and sends you on your way.

Good luck.

"Well, that's a tad odd since I don't remember falling asleep," Benton replied. "But I suppose that makes sense. So, that would mean all we have to do get back is wake up, right?"

That seems simple enough. Probably just a pinch if it's a dream. Of course, with the Doctor involved, Benton has a suspicion it's a bit more complex than that.

More complex indeed. Four is just about the sort of person to willingly stay in a dream for longer than he really needs to, but that doesn't mean that things are more complex than they seem on the face of things.

"Yes, it would. But there's the little problem of how we got here. You aren't the only one who doesn't remember falling asleep."

Benton considers that for a moment. Well, it's definitely a job for UNIT if nothing else. Hopefully, the Brigadier would understand that even if he's sleeping there, he's working here.

"Has the same thing happened to you, Doctor? I would think something like this is right up your alley."
allpurposescarf: (oh hello there new world)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-04-12 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"If you mean did I suddenly find myself dreaming here, then yes. I did. It's really quite interesting."

And also rather like an unexpected vacation and he isn't really about to complain about that. Not compared to what he might have been doing back in the waking realm.

"It's not a plot by some alien, is it? I haven't seen any activity but it would be helpful to know what we're up against."

He hasn't seen anything that could suggest Daleks or Cybermen or Autons, but you can never been to sure, and he's just covering his bases.
allpurposescarf: (not sure I like the sound of that)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-04-15 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's not any of the usual suspects, that's for certain. He'd have recognized Autons and there's not nearly enough yelling for it to be Daleks or Cybermen. To say nothing of the fact that the latter two would most likely have already made their presence known if they'd been around.

"I don't think so. Or if it is, they certainly aren't being very obvious about it. So either it's a very subtle invasion, or it's something like that time I ended up in the Land of Fiction."

[personal profile] obviousisntit 2014-04-16 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Land of Fiction? Don't think I've heard that story before? Miss Grant and Miss Smith were usually very good at keeping me informed of their travels."

The fact that the Doctor went to a fictional world honestly doesn't surprise Benton at all.
allpurposescarf: (yes. yes it could work.)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-04-18 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, of course you wouldn't have! That was a long time before either Miss Grant or Miss Smith. A long time before this me too, come to thing of it. But it's very much what it sounded like. A realm where fiction really was reality."

And it had been quite a bit of work getting back out of it again, but they'd managed in the end. And the sooner he doesn't have to go back there again, the better.

"So, when you say fiction, you mean like stories and stuff like that? Like characters from a fairy tale?"
allpurposescarf: (Default)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-04-21 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Precisely! Only all put together in the same place. Or close enough to the same place, anyway."

Enough that he'd had been hard at all to run across very nearly half a dozen different characters from various stories in the process of finding their way out of that realm. But it hadn't been all bad, in the long run. Or at least, not as bad as it could have been.

[personal profile] obviousisntit 2014-04-22 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
"With all the different characters as well? How did you get out?"

Perhaps there's a clue to be found here.
allpurposescarf: (if I'm very clever...)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-04-23 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, well. We rather wrote our way out, eventually. Or near enough to, under the circumstances."

But the details aren't too terribly important compared to the fact that they did get out eventually. Its just not the sort of answer that is really going to work to get them out of a realm of dreams instead. After all, there's no writing oneself out of the predicament here.

[personal profile] obviousisntit 2014-04-24 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Benton nods. Something tells him that's not going to be possible here.

"Think the circumstances are a little different here, Doctor. I don't suppose we can dream anything up that would help us?"
allpurposescarf: (what?)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-04-26 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Very much not going to be possible, no. As much as it might be nice if it had been. But that is another matter just at the moment.

"Well, we can certainly try. But I'm not certain if it would help in the long run. A dream TARDIS isn't going to do much good in the real universe."
obviousisntit: (Default)

[personal profile] obviousisntit 2014-04-27 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Fair point." Back to the drawing board with that one, Benton supposes.

"Anything else I should be aware of?"
allpurposescarf: (yes that's better)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-04-28 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, just the local variety of enemies. But they aren't really anything to be concerned about. Not like some of the ones we've run into before."

And for all that he hasn't really tried lately and wouldn't have been inclined much anyway, he has a suspicion that bullets will work on these enemies.

[personal profile] obviousisntit 2014-04-29 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"That's a relief. I think might have seen some of them earlier. The little guys are supposed to help us right. That's what the floating bear said."

allpurposescarf: (insufferably smug)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-05-05 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"They are, yes. And they do it fairly well."

Better than he'd ever be at fighting monsters, at any rate. Not that he'd have too much of a problem with it, if he absolutely had to, but it's much nicer to not need to, and Harry does a good enough job of things, besides.
obviousisntit: (Default)

[personal profile] obviousisntit 2014-05-07 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Benton nods, looking down at Trap One who has flopped by his feet.

"Well, looks like I'll be counting on you then, mate." The Meow wow gives a tired wuff.
allpurposescarf: (ah there we are)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-05-10 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
"For a little while, at least."

Until they wake up, most likely. And if Benton wants to help out his new ally, well, it's not like he's about to complain. It's not his Dream Eater and thus it's unlikely to be his fight. Unless it is, in which case most of the fighting on his end is probably going to be left to Harry.
