Dreaming Wide Awake [Fourth Wall/Open]

Who: Everyone! Current characters, fourth wall characters, whoever wants to show up.
What: The portals are closed. Everyone's in Traverse Town, including a whole bunch of new people. This should be interesting.

You didn't expect to be here. You really didn't. The technicolor buildings are a surprise, as is the little white flying bear telling you you're in the dream world. He gives you a bag full of what looks to be currency, enough shiny things to create a creature of your own (or so he says), and sends you on your way.

Ivan Karelin stands there holding the bag and all the shiny things, but the white teddy bear's quick explanation only gives him more questions. He needs to get back to Stern Bild. The Justice Bureau had just called for the heroes to take action, and Miss Joubert will be furious if he's missing. As much as he may normally jump at the chance to participate in something that sounds like a video game or anime, he really doesn't want to face the producer's wrath.

"Um, excuse me, but I don't know what to do with any of this or how I got here..."

If he accidentally sneaked up on you and started talking, he's sorry. Ivan appears suddenly from the background a lot.

"Yeah, well, join the club," Clint snaps.

He's not always so snippy, but he'd been enjoying so much needed time off after a certain realm hopping adventure. He'd already dealt with fairies, elves, Asgardians, and was frankly just about DONE with the whole traveling thing. Couldn't he just stay in one place for, like, five minutes? A break wasn't so much to ask for was it?

He sighs, he knows it was a little uncalled for and looks up from his perch. He'd been leaning against the railing of a nearby stairwell. He looks the young man over and holds up his own bag of goodies. "Something to do with dreams and this stuff is supposed to help. If it's really a dream it's the weirdest one I've had in awhile."

And that snap gets Ivan to take a few steps backwards. The man looked like a hero, so he thought that maybe he'd be someone safe to talk to. Maybe not.

"The bear did say that... though I don't know what it meant," he says meekly. And if he's dreaming, then why can't he be in Japan instead? He's never seen a place like this before, and Japan would have been a much better travel location. He'd risk Miss Joubert's anger to explore Japan. "Um, have you been here long?"

Clint doesn't apologize. At least not yet. After all, this guy could be a part of it somehow. Plus, he's just naturally kind of grumpy. He'll probably come around eventually.

At least he's not snapping any more and, in fact, seems to be easing up already. He has something to focus on now at least.

"Beats me. Could me a new kind of technology, magic, or mutant ability for all we know." Mass hallucination, dream walking, alternate dimension, and the list goes on. Clint isn't even sure if there's a way to narrow it down from this side of things. He shakes his head, "Nah. Just got here myself. Haven't even had a chance to dig through my welcome basket yet."

That comment has Ivan believing even more that the man is a hero. There are other shows and the like around the world like Hero TV, so it's possible he's from overseas. He would have expected some sponsors on his outfit however... Maybe he's a free agent.

"It seems a little strong for a NEXT power, but I guess that's possible." This could all be in Ivan's head rather than the whole place being warped into something, but does that mean Ivan's talking with a voice in his head? "More maybe it's a group of NEXTs working together."

"What's NEXT code for exactly?" Clint is used to all kinds of shorthand thanks to SHIELD, but he's pretty sure he's never heard that one. Although based on context alone he figures it's some kind of mutant term. His look of confusion though should probably start to give Ivan some clue as to just how involved he is in Hero TV. That being absolutely zip.

"... Noted Enities with eXtraordinary Talents... Do they call it something else where you're from?" Maybe the term didn't translate as well overseas, but Ivan can't say he has heard something different either. "Y-you're a hero, right? Someone with powers who protects people and upholds justice?"

For points, screen time, and the glory of being crowned King of Heroes? And the altruistic reasons, of course.

Why else would the man be dressed like that if he wasn't?

He briefly wonders why everyone feels the need to use and abuse acronyms. SHIELD, AIM, and now this. Was it really necessary? It honestly starts to get confusing after awhile. But Clint will keep that to himself.

"Mutants. Metahumans. Super powered individuals." Super heroes, potential targets, the majority if his contact list, etc. Clint won't mention those other names though.

He smirks at the question. "Yeah. I'm a hero. I've saved the world about a dozen times now and the lives of certain Avengers probably more than that." He's easing up a bit it seems. His conversational tone is certainly becoming more casual. "No powers though. Just exceptionally skilled with a bow," he jerks a thumb over his shoulder at the quiver on his back. "Hasn't exactly stopped me though."

He gives the man another look, "Guessing you're one too then. A hero?"

"The world?" But something about that doesn't sound quite right to Ivan. If the world had been in big trouble, wouldn't he have heard about it? Unless... it was a special that the Avenger show ran that really wasn't world wide. That makes a lot more sense to him.

Though, Ivan bites his bottom lip when the conversation is turned to him because should he be so openly admitting he's a hero outside of his hero suit? What about keeping his secret identity? But this man is also a hero, even if it's from a different show.... "I am. I'm Stern Bild's Hero TV's Origami Cyclone."

Ivan bows before the man. He only has his ID cards on him to prove that he works for Helperidese Finances and Hero TV, but even those won't prove he's a hero. Perhaps that's for the best?

"Isn't that what I just said?" Clint's not sure how you could miss something like that. Okay, so MAYBE the Avengers as a whole got more credit for it in the media, but that didn't mean that Clint wasn't involved in making it happen. He'd been very important to the process in his humble opinion.

Of course, his next statement gave him pause. Clint frowned. He was pretty familiar with a lot of the major cities around the world. It came with working with SHIELD and stuff. He'd never heard of a Stern Bild and certainly nothing called Hero TV.

"I...think we might need to start over, cause I didn't recognize about half of what you just said. Where is that and what is Hero TV? I mean, I know I don't get to watch a lot of television these days but I didn't think I was that far out of the loop of what was on."

Not hearing about Hero TV is something Ivan can forgive since some citizens within Stern Bild don't have much of a grasp of the show or the heroes on it. However, Stern Bild has a population of over 25 million people and a unique three layer design. It seems impossible to not know of it just like someone has to have heard of Tokyo, San Francisco, London, Sydney...

Ivan can't hide his confusion, brows knitting. Maybe if someone doesn't watch TV, it's a lot easier not to have heard about other cities on the news? But then this man has saved the world... How can he make sense of this?

"Um, Stern Bild is a metropolis in New York, and Hero TV is a show that ranks heroes' exploits live. Most of the time."

It's apparently a circle of confusion then. Clint considers his options. He doesn't think the other guy is making this stuff up. He sounds too sincere about it. However, if he had missed television it was one thing...to miss a whole metropolis in New York was another.

And then it clicks.

"Oh great...this is one of those alternate universe things isn't it?"

In immediate response to his query, a Komory Bat appeared almost out of nowhere, hovering in front of Ivan's face and squeaking enthusiastically. Boy, is it a good thing he has good hearing and can answer your question! You're in the dream world and you're supposed to use that stuff to make a friend! It'll be great!

For the love of Japan, what is that? Where did it come from? What does it want?

Ivan stumbles away from the squeaking, flying ball of colors and fluff. Is this thing related to the bear somehow? Is this what the bear meant by making a creature? Ivan didn't even do anything with those shiny things.

"... H-Hello..."

Oh! Oh don't go away! He just wants to be friends! Fang flaps closer, aiming to land on Ivan's shoulder and nuzzle his cheek. See? Friends!

Yelping, Ivan flinches at the bat nuzzling him. Why is it touching him? He holds out one of the shiny items the bear gave him. "Did you want this?"

If he throws them, will he stop being "attacked" by the cute fuzzy animal? It looks like it could be food for a creature as bright as it is.

That's about when a purple six-legged cat with bells at its ear and throat and a musical eighth note for a tail rounds the corner. She stops and meows up at Fang. Hey! Our person's looking for you. Quit bothering that guy!

He's not bothering him, Fang retorts. He's making friends! See? He reaches out and pokes Ivan's nose with a wing. Boop! Friends!

Wash rounded the corner at just that moment. "Fang! Get over here!"

Oop, gotta go! Fang lifted off and flapped over to his person, landing on his person's shoulder and nuzzling his person's helmet. Hiiii!

"Stop running off," Wash told it flatly, unamused by all the affection. "The last thing you need is to get eaten." He took a moment to look at the kid Fang had been bothering. Evidently the kid shared Grif's fear of bats; he looked pretty traumatized. "Are you okay?"

"I-I-I'm fine..." The cute colorful bat hadn't hurt him, though it had made Ivan rather uncomfortable with how affectionate it had been. They just met, and Ivan still doesn't think he did anything to warrant that attention. ... Maybe it liked the smell of his shampoo?

And now that he can see something beyond fuzzy bat, Ivan gives the suited man a quick look up and down. Is he a hero from outside of Stern Bild? Where are his sponsor logos? Regardless, he has an air of knowing what is going on. "What's going, sir?"

That was just what Fang did - he was friendly to a fault. Wash just sighed and shrugged the bat right off his shoulder, leaving it to flap its way into the air.

Okay, the sir was unexpected. Usually new people asked Wash what the hell he was or acted like he was going to kill them; respect was an entirely new reaction. "Did you pick up on anything the Moogles said?" Given that the kid didn't seem to have a Spirit of his own yet, probably not.

"Moogle?" That must be the white bear thing that gave him all of this stuff. Ivan glances over to where one is giving the quick lowdown to another person. "It told me that this was money and that these can be used to make a creature or something..."

Honestly, Ivan thought that maybe it attracted creatures like the bat, but he's apparently wrong. "If it said anything more... I think I must have missed it. All this happened so fast..."

Okay, he couldn't blame the kid for that. This place was kind of a shock to everyone who didn't already come equipped with a giant key. "That's one way to put it. If you run into any creatures with red eyes, they're Nightmares and they'll try to kill you. If you use those pieces and make a Spirit, it'll help you in battle." He glanced at Fang, who was currently trying to figure out a way to hang upside-down off his shoulder armor. "Believe it or not."

Nightmares? Spirits? As much as the information confuses him, it makes more sense than what the bear--moogle gave him.

"... But how do I use them?"

It's all fine and good to constantly tell him to use the strange items he has been given, but without instructions on that part, he's out of luck. Does he say magic words? Does he throw them in a box and shake?

"Just...put 'em together." Wash mimed cupping something in his hands. There really wasn't a more direct tutorial than that. At least something around here was simple.

Ivan takes the pieces into his hands and looks at them hesitantly before pressing them together like one might do with two large balls of clay. A brilliant light bursts before them as the pieces come into contact with each other. Ivan yelps and stumbles backwards.

A fuzzy bat spins around before him. Ivan stares, slightly alarmed, slightly in awe. He just made a bat out of random shiny things.

"Congratulations, it's a bat." Aside from that comment, Wash keeps his distance - may as well give the kid a chance to get used to the idea. Even Fang resists the urge to go greet the new bat - he has to meet his person first, after all!
