He fucked you up, your science dad.
Who: Even and Xion.
What: So, about that whole Replica thing...
Where: Their house.
When: Backdated to shortly after this and ensuing additional screaming.
Warnings: Feels, drama, poor parenting.
After the way their last conversation had ended, Even was more than a little leery of starting a new one - mostly due to his personal embarrassment. Once the (pestilential) emotions had calmed down a bit, he was aware just how irrational, how childish he'd acted in front of Xion. There was no call to behave that way.
He was certainly not going to do anything of the kind again. He was going to have a calm, mature discussion, like an adult, concerning Xion's wishes and wellbeing, and no one was going to scream, and then he would...decide how to proceed from there based on the results. Yes.
He knocked on her bedroom door. "Xion? We should. Talk."

He knocked on her bedroom door. "Xion? We should. Talk."

She was surprised to hear his footsteps approach her door (a first), even more surprised when he knocked and said they should talk. After a moment to recover, she pulled herself out from the pile her (now sleeping) Spirits had made around her to answer the door. Probably better to talk now than later.
It would help if she knew where to start, though. Once she'd opened her door, all she could manage was, "Okay."
She moved aside in the doorframe to allow to him to come in if he wanted.

Rather than enter the room, he hovered awkwardly in the doorway, looking at Xion's Spirits as though he suspected them of listening in.
"Right. Well." He didn't have any idea where to begin either, but he was liable to be more loquacious about it. "My abrupt departure was inappropriate, but I trust you understand that our last conversation was exceedingly unexpected. Rather than revisit said conversation, I suppose I should ask if you have found yourself experiencing any symptoms you associate with your - difficulties - since arriving here?"

So, they were having this conversation in the doorway. That worked, and thankfully the Spirits stayed asleep. They likely would unless shouting happened.
Trust Even to at least be able to speak even when not sure where to start. Xion nodded in confirmation to his statement--that conversation had been difficult. "Symptoms? Oh! No, since I've been here, I've been fine."
Looking like herself--check. Sora and Roxas not displaying any signs of getting weaker--check. For now, everything seemed fine. She'd even started wearing her hood down more often.

"And what symptoms precisely - that is, how do you recall the experience of degeneration? Particularly the early stages. For reference, and in case they recur at some point."
no subject
"At the beginning, it was just hints of Sora's memories as I got them." That had hurt, thinking she was remembering her time before she was a Nobody and then finding out the truth. "After that...once, I collapsed on a mission and slept for weeks. After that, when I got better, I started getting stronger--and Roxas started getting weaker. In the end, I started looking like Sora."
That had been the tipping point, the hint that she needed to give the memories back before it was too late. "But, here, Roxas, Sora, and I--we're all from after I gave the memories to Roxas, and Roxas went back to Sora." She paused. "Do you think that might help?"
So far so good, but... She didn't want her Original or best friend to be trapped here with her very existence could be a danger to them.

"It...may," he said, not willing to commit to anything being less than terrible in case he was wrong. "But if any of those things start to occur, or anything else unusual - unusual to you specifically, not the general sort of unusual happening - you must tell me at once. Do you understand?"
no subject
Being overly optimistic wouldn't help, no. Not that they needed to be totally pessimistic, either, but Even's reasoning was sound. Xion nodded. "I do, and I'll tell you as soon as I can if I notice anything like what happened before."

It's not totally a question, more like she's wanting to have a thought confirmed.

Unsure how to deal with a teenager and thus offering her the opportunity to be passed off to the only person he knows who does? Perhaps.
no subject
"Oh! Yeah, I know Aeleus, but I wasn't planning on...I'd like to keep helping out here, if that's okay."
Of course, if Even would rather keep some distance now that was understandable.

Which was as close as he was likely to get to expressing a fondness for her presence.

"I want to stay." It wouldn't feel right to leave. She couldn't quite put her hand on why, which meant it was probably one of those things that had a lot of reasons behind it. For now, it was enough to say that somehow this place had come to be home. Xion hadn't realized she'd tensed up at the suggestion of going to stay elsewhere, but she did noticeably relax at the reassurance that wouldn't be a necessity.
That relief offered her exhaustion a chance to catch up to her and she had to stifle a yawn. Once she'd recovered, she looked a little sheepish. "Sorry. Maybe I should try to sleep again."
