Who: Roxas, Emizel, and whoever dares enter Twilight Town
What: Experimenting with nightmares. For Science.
Where: Twilight Town
When: Sometime after the dreams start
Warnings: Copious amount of nightmares, Roxas's Hayner-worthy idea, and potential yelling.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

At least, that's Roxas's rational. Emizel had been worried that if they defeated all the nightmares, he'd be in trouble, so what better way to test if there was a connection than if they could get a lot of nightmares.

The plan was simple. Get treats, and then get the nightmares to follow them to a location, see if Emizel felt more energetic, and then fight off the nightmares before it got out of hand.

Roxas supposed he underestimated how many nightmares they could summon with a few treats, but they could manage, right? It's not like there were any big ones or anything.

They'd be fine.

"Huh? I thought it was just Nightmares around here..."

All the same, Kanji's bracing himself, shield ready to swing.

"Hope you know how to use that thing," Roxas replied, before launching a blizzard spell at an incoming Toximander. He wasn't sure how good a weapon a shield was, but as long as it did the trick, he wasn't going to complain.

"Don't worry 'bout me," he replies.

Know how to use it? By any successful shield-user's standards, Kanji doesn't. He's using the thing as a blunt instrument, gripping it at the top and swinging it viciously. Still, it's not like the Tama Sheep he just smashed into is going to argue the point.

As long as he takes out the nightmares, Roxas doesn't really care how he uses it. After all, he fights with a pair of giant keys.

"I won't, unless you need to be healed. I can take care of that."

And now Kanji's getting a better view of the things - okay, he'd heard the term 'keyblade' before, but he hadn't thought that it was quite so ... literal. Huh.

"Alright, man - yaah! Come 'n get some!" he shouts at the Nightmares, charging forward.

Roxas breathed a sigh of relief as his last toximander went down with a fireball. That hadn't been the biggest group of Nightmares, so Roxas could only hope they were starting to thin out.

He turned to check on Kanji.

"Damn."

That'd been quite the workout. Kanji's shield was resting against a wall as he wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve.

"Persistent little things, ain't they?" Perhaps an understatement on his part. He'd been knocked over at least once, but managed to keep his momentum through it.

"Yeah, they don't really stop," Roxas replied, leaning against the wall. "Are they like that in your world...the monsters you fight?"

He fished in his pocket for a potion and offered it to Kanji.

"Eh... close." Not so damn cute, though, admittedly - as much as he couldn't really pay attention to that detail when the things were trying to eat him. He accepted the potion, looking it over- "What's this for, man?"

"It's a potion. It'll restore your health, if you need it. They're pretty useful things to carry if you're fighting nightmares," Roxas explained.

It was hard to remember that some worlds didn't have magic.

"...Huh." Compared to the sodas and medical kits he'd taken into fights, this was a bit different. He flicked the top off the thing, chugged it back in one go.
...it felt like he'd just drank a Dia spell. "Damn. Those things work fast."

"Good. They're supposed to, especially if you need to take on in the middle of a fight," Roxas replied. "There's also mega-potions if you need something stronger. They're a bit easier than trying to cast a cure spell."

"Yeah. Healing magic's not really my thing," he said with a shrug. "Good to know."

"It's not mine either. I'd rather just fight them off."

Roxas wasn't exactly one for subtlety, or worrying about injuries. They could be healed easily enough in a lull.

That got a nod. Totally there, too. "Finish 'em first, right."

"Yeah, show 'em who's boss." Roxas smiled turned a little cocky.

"I'm Roxas, by the way."

"Hell yeah," Kanji responded to the first bit. "Roxas, cool. I'm Kanji."

Roxas nods, repeating the name in his mind a few times so that he won't forget.

"So were you just coming to explore? Sorry, if you were."

Sorry? What for? "Yeah. I ain't been over here before," he says with a shrug.

As far as Roxas was concerned, the first thing you experience in a new world shouldn't be a large crowd of nightmares.

"Well, I think it's mostly nightmare free now, so it's safe to look around."

"Huh. Hope so." Kanji dusts himself off. "You know this placce at all?"

[seasaltkeys]

"Yeah. It was something, of a home."

He called it home once, when he didn't know any better. He stays because it's familiar, but he's not really sure if he can call it home.

"'Was'? You mean you're from here? The, uh, awake here? Huh. Cool." Kanji smiles, but - would he like it if Inaba were to turn up in the dreamworlds? Hard question.
