4. Party Rock Anthem

Bolin, with the help of Spirits, Moogles, and various other people had finally finished setting up the party. There were tables laden with different kinds of food of course and decorations everywhere. They'd made sure to clear a space for dancing and Perry the Platypus had volunteered to DJ with some equipment borrowed from the moogles for the night. Bolin wished there could be more people so they could have games and stuff like a proper street festival...but for what he had he felt it was pretty good.

Now they just needed people to show up for the fun.

"Yeah. You can't eat much of it at once. Most people can't anyway." Lea remembered being a kid; he'd had no problem going through a bag of cotton candy - bad news for his parents - but he'd gotten to like different things as he got older.

"Why do they give you such a big helping then?" Roxas asked. It had been handed to him on a stick rather than a bag, and he wasn't sure if he'd be able to finish it.

Still, he offers some to Lea.

Lea took some and ate it, talking around it a bit. "Well, some people can eat a whole thing by themselves but mostly you share it with other people." Like Roxas had. Lea had thought a lot about just doing normal friend-stuff with Roxas, but moments like this reminded him just how little Roxas had gotten to do. It got depressing if he let himself think about it too much.

"So that everyone can get sick of the sugar?" As much as Roxas was putting down the cotton candy, he did go for another handful. It wasn't that bad and he kind of liked the way it melted in his mouth. And it was nice to share it with friends. Ice cream was still the number one food to share, but that went without saying.

"I guess it works that way, doesn't it?" Lea looked around. "This is great but I hope we get a place with a real carnival sometime. You and Xion'll love it."

"I thought this was a party. Aren't carnivals supposed to have rides and stuff?"

[eternalfrolicbond]

"It is. But cotton candy, street food, stuff like that are all around at carnivals." Lea shrugged. Street parties were nice enough, though. The games sounded like they'd be really fun.

"It sounds like fun then. If there's all that to eat plus rides and games."

[eternalfrolicbond]

"It's really fun." They'd get to it someday. "This is more personal though. Carnivals are mostly shop keepers. This is all us."

"Kinda like the struggle tournament then." Or the fake one, but Roxas hoped that it was based off of a real event.

"Kind of. Sports tournaments can get really big, but the struggle thing is pretty normal for small towns." He didn't think struggle was too popular other places; Destiny Islands would probably be all over it, though.

"So you wouldn't see something like that in the big city?"

[eternalfrolicbond]

"Oh, you definitely could, but it'd probably be a neighborhood doing it. Whole cities can do it but then the events get really big."

"Right. But how big exactly?"

[eternalfrolicbond]

"Thousands of people all at once. If you count the people watching and cheering them on, tens of thousands," Lea said. He'd never gone to something that big - the Coliseum wasn't quite that size - but he knew that stuff like that happened.

"Wow. That's a lot of people." Roxas wasn't sure he could imagine that many people, if he was being honest. A lot of people always managed to freak him out a little.

"Yeah, it gets pretty huge. But think about how cool it would be to win a competition like that. Everyone cheering for you and knowing who you are..." It used to be his biggest dream. Huh. He must've grown up, somewhere along the way.

Roxas pauses for a moment, thinking about it. It took a bit of time, as he had to double, and even triple the size of the struggle tournament.

"It would be pretty cool."

[eternalfrolicbond]

"I used to want to do something like that more than anything. Or something that'd mean that everyone would remember me." Lea shrugged. "Being famous is kind of like living forever; as long as someone knows who you were, you're not really gone."

"Can't the same be said of friends remembering you? Did you tell me that once?"

Or was it a conclusion he came up to on his own?

Lea rubbed the back of his head. "I don't remember if I told you that. It's true, though."

"Yeah." Roxas paused, staring at the cotton candy.

"Did you want to do something else? Like wander around or something?"

"Yeah, sure! No point in just standing around with all this stuff to do."
