4. Party Rock Anthem

Characters: Party People
Content: Bolin hosts a block party in Twilight Town. Food, fun, and partying! Whoo!
Location (including world): Twilight Town, The Sandlot
Time of Day: Late afternoon and into the night
Warnings: Excessive partying?
Notes: Feel free to start your own sub-threads, thread-jack, and just have fun. Open free for all is the style for threading.

Bolin, with the help of Spirits, Moogles, and various other people had finally finished setting up the party. There were tables laden with different kinds of food of course and decorations everywhere. They'd made sure to clear a space for dancing and Perry the Platypus had volunteered to DJ with some equipment borrowed from the moogles for the night. Bolin wished there could be more people so they could have games and stuff like a proper street festival...but for what he had he felt it was pretty good.

Now they just needed people to show up for the fun.

The pricklemane at Lin's side squeaked a friendly greeting, his little cone party hat with rainbow streamers attached a bright break against his purple spikes. No one would be mistaking him for someone else's companion today!

It wasn't likely anyone would expect them on the dance floor. Which was completely fine by Lin. "Arriving and departing. Though we often don't hear about the latter until someone else goes looking for them and finds them gone." Her head shook slightly, then she sipped her drink: fruit juice, rather than something harder.

"I think I will have to give Bolin credit for this one, though. I think a party is just what people have needed to lighten things up."

Chuza gave a short bark back to the pricklemane, and then resumed her nap. Kura, however, scampered over and looked at the party hat. He chittered back at Eraqus...hey, he wanted a special hat, too! It had streamers and everything!

Eraqus didn't pay him much attention at the moment. "True. It'd be better to know when the latter was happening...but I don't know how." It was a reminder that his students could vanish, too, and he felt a little somber at the thought.

He nodded, and took a sip of his own drink. "It is just as important, perhaps more important, to keep spirits up. So that was good of him."

Isn't it neat? There's a stand handing out free ones for Spirits! (It helped tell him apart from the others here, so Lin was tolerant. Mostly. The owl, high above on a roof top perch, though it unnecessary and silly.)

"There doesn't seem to be much choice in the matter." Coming or going. "But so long as they are not forgotten.. Namine's wall, I think, is a good for that." A way to remember friends come and gone. The girl had been so pleased to be asked about it. A fitting tribute, really.

"I'd say this is the first I've been too in too many years." Usually, her involvement was strictly in a working capacity. A police chief's job was never done. "It's not quite the same as some of the festivals we have back home," Avatar Day was certainly unique in Republic City -- assuming it survived the Equalist Regime, "but this feels far more.. Hmm." Her head cocked to one side. "..Honest.

Kura continued to jump up and down and twist around Eraqus's leg. Come ooooon! He wanted a party hat! Hadn't he been working hard all the time? Wouldn't he look snazzy in a hat?

Eraqus finally sighed down at the Spirit. "Fine, you can get one." Kura chittered with happiness and began to bounce around even more. He should have realized that sort of response was coming.

Eraqus gave a small smile. It was a good idea, and he was glad that Namine had thought to do it...he didn't so much know what to make of Nepeta's wall. "Yes, that's most important...and helps serve as a reminder to find them again when we can all get out of here." At least, those that still had futures waiting for them.

"Same for me," he said. He hadn't done big parties since he was very young, and since becoming a teacher, only had small parties for his students' birthdays and some holidays. He imagined that this party would be different from those on her home world, but the last comment left him with a questioning look. "Honest? Howso?"

There was a faint chuckle from Lin as Eraqus gave into the request. The child-like glee that the creatures displayed when they were happy was almost infectious, even to someone as strict with her pair as Beifong was.

"That is the hope. And hope can be a pretty powerful force at the end of the day." Nepeta's wall was amusing, in Lin's eyes, and she looked forward to the next update - though she had yet to hear if Even had forced the poor alien child to paint over its current location yet.

Lin stared ahead at the party as she weighed her words with care. "No politics," she finally said. She was an earth bender. Her mother had been ruthlessly thorough in her education, and the lies and tongue twisting involved in government made Lin's skin crawl - not in the least when she could sense the blatent dishonesty in their words.

"The moogles may be operating a business, same as vendors at any other occasion. But no one here is playing multiple games, hiding motives behind false smiles, doing something and expecting payment in kind."

"Not here." For a moment, she thought she spotted York leading an unfamiliar redhaired woman between booths with a grin; Bolin was busy chatting away with one of the ponies by the DJ; the blond haired boy who'd sold her some icecream talking with what looked like someone in blue Freelancer-type armor on the other side of the sand lot. "They're all here to relax. To enjoy one another's company."

She looked back at Eraqus, and shrugged. Honest was the word that fit best.

Although part of it was exasperation, Eraqus couldn't help but smile at Kura's enthusiasm, too. All things aside, it was kind of nice to see the Spirit get so excited over something as simple as a hat.

He nodded. "I'd venture to say at the end of the day, it's the most powerful force."

Even the parties he'd been to when he was much younger never seemed to have ulterior motives to them...it was just people meeting and hanging out. But he'd never been in a situation where he went to a party where politics would be involved. As fine as he was at dealing with them (for the most part), he never did find them enjoyable.

He took note of Lin's thoughtfulness. "I'd like to ask what circumstances would lead to unpleasant politics at the party, but I get the sense that's not a topic of conversation for here, either." Eraqus turned, and watched all the various partygoers enjoying themselves. "So relaxing with company seems better."
