4. Party Rock Anthem

Bolin, with the help of Spirits, Moogles, and various other people had finally finished setting up the party. There were tables laden with different kinds of food of course and decorations everywhere. They'd made sure to clear a space for dancing and Perry the Platypus had volunteered to DJ with some equipment borrowed from the moogles for the night. Bolin wished there could be more people so they could have games and stuff like a proper street festival...but for what he had he felt it was pretty good.

Now they just needed people to show up for the fun.

"Are you enjoying the festivities?" He didn't really quite know her well enough to get past the formalities quite yet. But that's what small-talk was for, even when it was tiresome.

"Of course," Nepeta answered with a smile. It was nice to see people simply relaxing, and even if she hadn't really started to explore the festivities proper, what she could see was already more than enough for her to pronounce the affair a success.

"Are you?"

"I have been so far. It's interesting to see everyone out together; there aren't so many people here, it seems, but then you see them at an event like this." How many of them came from wildly different worlds like North and his friends? It would be fascinating to find out.

"It is. Efurrybody looks really happy too, and that's good."

It meant the party would last for a while yet, and that meant more time to see what people were setting up. And maybe she'd end up checking out the moogle's stand at some point. She liked her bat just fine, and the possibility of getting something else was more than interesting.

"I can't help but wonder what your world is like, compared to this. Obviously it's quite different from here," Ienzo said. He wasn't sure if anyone had really asked her; surely she had friends here.

"I could tell you, if you really wanted to know."

Sure, Alternia might be gone, but that doesn't mean she can't share anyway. Especially if Ienzo happens to be actually curious, as opposed to simply asking to making conversation.

"I would be interested to hear." North's world was quite different, as was that of the ponies. He rather anticipated that whatever Nepeta said would be fascinating.

From certain perspectives, it probably was fascinating. Perhaps not Nepeta's, but then again, she'd grown up there. Of course she wouldn't find it terribly out of the ordinary.

"It was called Alternia," she answered. "The sun was too brought for efurryone to go outside in the day though, so we're all nocturnal. It had two moons, too."

"So you had a day and night cycle...not everyone does." Ienzo nodded to indicate the world that they were currently in; it was interesting to hear that other places had worlds that ALL had night and day cycles.

"Of course not," Nepeta answers with a slight laugh. "But time is suppawsed to be funny in dreams anyway, so it's not really a surpurrise."

Besides, there had been the various lands they'd had while working their way through Sgrub and even if those had been game constructs before they had been actual worlds, that didn't change the fact that some of them never seemed to change from day to night.

"Is everyone catlike, as you are?" Ienzo asked. It would fit the theme of being nocturnal at least somewhat.

Well, Nepeta supposed that was at least a sensible question under the circumstances. She was the only troll around so far, and she did consider herself to at least be pretty catlike.

"No. We're insectile."

[shadearchivist]

Ienzo nodded. That was interesting; he wasn't sure why an insectile species would become bipedal...perhaps mentioning it to Even would make him interested in his houseguest. "Quite different from many of the people here. I believe most of us are mammalian."

Nepeta wouldn't have been able to explain it either. She simply knew that they were and that was enough for her. Perhaps someone who'd been more into the ectobiology side of things would have more insight into the situation but what she had was more than enough by here.

"Really? Like cats and things?"

[shadearchivist]

"Yes, like cats. Cats, dogs, humans, and so on." It could vary from world to world, of course, but that was apparently possible where she came from too, since she seemed to know what mammals were. "There don't seem to be any in the dream world."

Most of the mammalian species Nepeta was familiar with were lusii, or barring that, one of the other variants of monster that plagued Alternia. Actually imagining the predominant species being mammalian, then, was a little bit odd.

"Well, I supawse there's you, isn't there?"

[shadearchivist]

"Yes, but I am not a native of the dream world. I suppose only the moogles are," Ienzo said. "I'm not certain whether they're mammals or not."

[whoseesbynight]

"Someone could ask them," Nepeta offered, with a shrug. "I don't know they'll answer though."

On one hand, they might. On the other, it was just as likely that they would either decline to answer. But if they didn't try then they almost certainly wouldn't know.

"That would be the easiest way." Ienzo's thoughts echoed Nepeta's they might not actually get an answer if they did ask. "We were speaking about you, though. I hate to seem inattentive."

[whoseesbynight]

"Well," Nepeta answered, "we don't have to go ask the moogles right. So if you wanted to ask meowre questions, you can."

After all, part of the point of a party was to talk, and she had no problems continuing her explanations of how trolls worked, if that was what Ienzo wanted to discuss.

"I hope I'm not boring you," Ienzo said. It was difficult to tell; he wanted to know, but not to the point of annoying her.

[whoseesbynight]

"Of course not!" Nepeta answered. "I wouldn't still be here if you were."

Not that she'd just leave entirely, but she'd never seen any real reason to not tell people what she thought, and besides, why shouldn't she help satisfy someone's curiosity when she had the chance?

"What was it like, growing up there?" He hadn't really asked North about that...though considering North's distress about his sister it hadn't seemed a good idea.

[whoseesbynight]

"It was sort of violent," Nepeta answers after a moment of consideration. "Not efurryone went out and hunted like I did, but that doesn't mean it was less violent. And then there's the hemospectrum, which is a stupid idea anyway. Blood color shouldn't mean anything."

Unfortunately, it did, but that didn't mean she had to like the idea.

"You had a kind of caste system?" That was interesting. Based on blood color, which underscored the physical differences between them.
