Every Time you Close Your Eyes
Characters: Roxas and Emizel
Content: Roxas faces the mansion
Location: Twilight Town, The mansion
Time: Afternoon
Warning: Potential existential crisis.
Roxas stared at the crack in the wall. Stood and stared for a long time.
Beyond that crack was the Mansion, the place where everything started, and ended he supposed. In other words, his destination. He'd avoided it for a long time. It brought memories, ones that he'd rather just leave behind and not face. The whole ordeal, those seven days in Twilight Town, was still a fresh wound, and extremely present at that.
Who could blame him? His life was on the line, and even though people had assured him that he wouldn't disappear, Roxas couldn't be sure. It had happened before, after all. And with Sora in such close proximity, who knew when his time was going to run out? There was a part of him that wanted to run away right now, and just ignore it. He'd get Bolin back here to seal it up and they'd never had to speak of it again.
Instead he went through. The logical part of his brain was speaking now, the part that said that if he wanted to get stronger, he'd have to face the mansion and the memories it held. And he had to get stronger. He had to get back at whatever had hit him on the Mother of Invention. He had to prove that he was allowed to exist. To himself, if not to anyone else.
He paused at the gate, sending a quick message to Emizel. He wasn't going to do this alone, and he would have to trust that Emizel wouldn't let him disappear.

"I guess we'll find out." He paused, looking at the door.
"Do you want to go first?"
no subject
Although the main room remained untouched, this one was not. The symbol drawn on the table had been completed by now, and looking around a bit more, other objects have shifted too. However, there was nothing in it that seemed suspicious. There still didn't seem to be any Nightmares either.
"Looks fine to me."
no subject
It looked like he remembered, with the table and symbol that he had completed the first time he was here. He glanced around, trying to find anything out of place.
"Yeah, nothing too out of the ordinary."
Granted it had seemed normal the first time too.
no subject
"Maybe we should check around a little more?"
no subject
"Alright. Let's head down to the basement, where the computer is."
no subject
He stepped out to main room again and gave another look around. Nightmares shouldn't have reappeared, but it didn't hurt to be cautious just to make sure. The stairway still was safe, at least.
no subject
He almost wished he'd left it.
no subject
"... You mean that one?"
no subject
He managed a nod. It was one thing to go into the mansion, another thing entirely to go down to the basement.
no subject
Regardless of who wanted to go down there first, Moxie was already snooping it out without them.
no subject
"Do you want to go first?"
no subject
"Yeah, yeah, I'll go," Emizel waved his hand and took a step down. As he made his way down, the low light was having a loosing battle with the demon's own personal light. Before long the base of the stairs was engulf by a blue hue, thanks to the shiny metallic walls and floor. But the room for the most part looked pretty empty.
Buster was still a little bit weary to go down there too though. Instead she hanged out with Roxas and waited. It still was a bit creepy down there..
no subject
Roxas waited a moment. There weren't any sounds of fighting, which was a good sign.
"Anything down there?" he asked. Either way, he'd be going down once there was a response. Bouncer pressed up against him.
no subject
Buster was the last to stay at the top, crouching on the first step and watched the others. Although it was kinda scary to be left all alone up here too. The bunny looked every which way before she hurried to meet with the rest of the group... Clearly not that she wanted to stay with them or anything.
no subject
"It's weird," he said, walking around the room. Was this really the end of the road? There should be a hallway to where the pods were.
no subject
"It looks like nothing down here has been used for a really long time," just like the rest of the house.
A thud came from just behind and startled the demon, although turned out to just be Buster who completely failed on the last step... Who knew the Spirit could be a klutz. Emizel tried so hard not to chuckle at it.
no subject
"Yeah. It looks empty." The digital copy of this room had looked more used, and he assumed the real world version was the same.
"Do you see a computer anywhere? Or any other doors?"
The extra flame was a big help, but the room still looked dim to him, even has his eyes adjusted.
I barely remember what anything in the downstairs looks like orz;;
Emizel moved the light again. There could be something he missed, it was certainly possible. It was finally when he flashed the light against a particular wall he saw that only wrapped around a corner. A gap in the wall? Nope, it was a opening to a second room.
"--Something's over here."
no subject
"What is it?" he asked, before pausing in front of the opening and answering his own question. It should lead to the computer room he reminded himself, before Bouncer charged through it.
no subject
"What ever this was for.." Emizel was not exactly the most savvy with tech, other than knowing what a computer was. But he had no idea why one was down here.
no subject
"It was used for creating a digital world," he said, coming out of his thoughts. "The guy who was using it made a whole world based on this one. Just to keep me there."
no subject
"... Digital world?" Emizel asked. "Why were you being kept in a digital world?"
Moxie was a bit intrigued by the computer and sniffed at it, although he didn't seem to realize there was dust and sneezed.
no subject
And he's still pretty bitter about it.
no subject
"So.. that's why you don't like this place?"
no subject
Roxas paused and looked over at the wall.
"In the real world, there's a hallway that led to another room. See, I'm actually part of another person, and he was sleeping in there. He needed me to wake up but that would mean I'd disappear."
He scuffed his foot along the ground.
no subject
"... And you were worried that room or that guy would still be down here," he added on to clarify.
no subject
"Yeah, or that, because they were here, I'd have to stop, you know, existing. I'd have to finish what had been started. I didn't want to do that, so that's why I got scared."
no subject
"... How did you manage to escape from it last time?"
no subject
He'd been ready, but now that there was some distance between him and that moment, he wasn't so sure anymore.
no subject
"... so then."
Did that sort of mean, when they all wake up, will he really disappear?
no subject
It's not desirable to say the least. But he figures he has time here, and he can use that to figure out a different plan, maybe.
"But it's enough to know I won't disappear now."
no subject
"... But sooner or later.."
None of them could stay here forever.
no subject
And who knew when that would be. But he was still here, and as far as he knew he wouldn't be leaving anytime soon. That was a grounding thought, and one he'd have to focus on.
"But I'm here now. I guess that counts for something."
no subject
"...We should probably go," finally Emizel spoke up. This trip seemed like it was about done. "Unless there's something else you want to check."
no subject
As much as he had resolved his issues about it, Roxas still wasn't very fond the mansion, and didn't really plan to stick around. Or visit it again.
"Thanks. For coming with me."
no subject
"...Yeah, no problem," maybe if he didn't make it sound like it was an awkward thing it wouldn't be an awkward thing.
