Nice Job Breaking It, Hero [Open]
Characters: A DEADLY BEE WEAPON! And you!
Content: BEES. MY GOD. -I mean BOSS BATTLE
Location: The Sandlot, Twilight Town
Time: The same time as the mansion thread
Warnings: It's a boss battle, guys. That speaks for itself.
The Sandlot is relatively quiet this time of day. The remnants of the Struggle tournament have long since been cleared away, and with business in other parts of town being better, the Moogles have packed up and gone elsewhere. It's actually pretty peaceful.
Which is why the buzzing noise in the distance is so unsettling. The fact that it's only growing louder makes it worse. Whether you're across town and following it to the source or waiting in the Sandlot for it to arrive, the result is the same: a large Nightmare that looks for all the world like an incredibly disgruntled bee touches down in the center of the Sandlot. Well, that does explain the buzzing noise, at least.
The Nightmare wastes no time. The second she's stationary, she fires off a round of heat-seeking lasers from her stinger. Good luck dodging those.
[OOC: Welcome to boss fight round two! This is Queen Buzzerfly, and true to form, she doesn't like you. This boss battle will be run much the same way as the first one, with D&D-style rolling on the mods' part; we ask once again that you keep up a good tagging speed, namely out of consideration for your fellow players; there is, however, no tag order. Finally, this thread is not open to characters exploring the mansion, as it takes place at the same time as the mansion thread.]

He arrived just in time to try to dodge the lasers; okay, he couldn't be sure if everyone was in trouble, but he sure was. Really, giant bees? The dream world was really messed up in some ways.

She was still in the air, just gliding into the space above the Sandlot, when the missiles were fired. "Ah! A 'Queen Buzzerfly!'" she exclaimed proudly, remembering Sora's notes. Her study had paid off! Luna tucked in her wings and dove to avoid a laser headed her way, not thinking much of it - unfortunately, the bestiary had said nothing about them being heat-seeking. "The round gems art their weak points!" she called to Lea, as well as anyone else in the area. "And beware - they may spew toxic dust!"
no subject
Unfortunately, she arrived too late to hear Luna's comments, but she'd read Sora's notes on dream eaters all the same, and she wasted no further time in summoning her own Keyblade and charging into the fray.

Eraqus arrived with Kura, and (he assumed) Yaza, although he couldn't see the Toximander at the moment. Considering the potential for toxic gases, however, he debated dismissing Kura and bringing out Jyunai instead...her overenthusiastic healing may be necessary. He summoned his Keyblade and prepared to fight, thinking he wouldn't need his armor yet, but prepared to summon that if necessary.
Eraqus had studied those notes as well, and arrived in time to hear Luna's statement as well. "If it summons smaller allies, only a few should focus on those, while others concentrate on striking the weak points."
While he would have preferred a bit more preparation for them to work things out in teams, they would have to make do with what they could for now.

Kyoshi started off in that direction. Bolin followed and before too long they emerged from one of the alleyways...just as a stinger flew at Bolin. Kyoshi grunted and yanked the boy back just in time and the wall next to them exploded instead. Kyoshi took most of the impact, but the bricks didn't do much damage to the Kooma Panda. Bolin stared wided eyed at the giant bee thing. "Spirits! That this is huge!"

He ducked behind his shield at the approach of the stingers and seriously considered pretending he had never been here. His Pricklemane had no such quandary: it skittered up to the Queen Buzzerfly and made an enthusiastic if ineffectual attempt at biting it.
"Would you get back here?" Even sighed and threw a Blizzara at the nearest weak point. He spared a moment to vaguely resent Sora for providing useful information.
no subject
She did, however, hesitate when she got there and actually saw the thing. She was a good fighter, and she knew it, but she had no bending and no magic and that thing was three or four times her size. There was no way she could last against it, and no pressure points she could see or even obvious weak points to target. Even the jewel that was supposed to be the target was mostly hidden as the creature kept its head ducked.
But even as she watched - and her two Spirits started chasing after the Nightmare - Asami heard a vibration in the air and turned. Four smaller bees had arrived to help their queen and they seemed to almost be laughing at the defenders. They were about the size of regular Nightmares - still a threat, but something she could handle herself without large mechanical assistance, and Asami pulled her goggles down over her eyes as protection. She had to finish trying to recreate the mecha, if she could. "I'll take these two, someone else grab the others! Nezha, Yifan, come!" Her Pricklemane and Necho Cat reversed in mid-run to return to her and dual-tackle one of the bees, while Asami ducked under a charge from the other and turned as it sailed by to grab it with her stun glove.
Please start a new thread after each boss tag. Thanks!
Lasers spent, Queen Buzzerfly then summoned four smaller Nightmare bees to take out these pesky intruders - and then, noticing that four would not be enough, summoned four more, and four more again, for a total of twelve. The one facing Asami all but exploded under the power surge provided by her glove. Nezha missed her tackle entirely, and Yifan managed only a glancing blow, failing to pin the bee and leaving it free to come around for another pass. The remainder of the summoned bees buzz angrily, bring their oversize stingers to bear, and attack.

Lea tossed a potion to Even. "Here."
no subject
And that was when the other bees assembled.
Bolin and Kyoshi both reached down for the earth and managed to flip up a wall, aiming to throw it at the approaching bees. Hopefully they could squash them like literal bugs.
no subject
Well. This was awfully troublesome. It was going to be near impossible to hit those weak spots as long as they had to deal with the Nightmare's minons, and he got the sense that even if they got rid of them all, their window of opportunity would be short.
"Jyunai!" He summoned her and mentally dismissed Yaza; now wasn't the time for a Spirit whose position he couldn't see. The Wheeflower's quirks would probably come in handy here.
And they did, as Jyunai immediately threw a cure spell at him. Reinvigorated, at least for now, Eraqus pulled his Keyblade forward and fired off a shotlock. The shots should at least automatically zero in on several of the bees. In the meanwhile, Kura got a similar idea and began flinging fireballs at any bees that came close.
no subject
Or so Aqua thought. The sudden arrival of the smaller bees made things a little more difficult, especially given that she wasn't terribly interested in repeating the explosion that had marred the last boss fight. On the other hand, Eraqus' idea was a perfectly sound one. There were, after all, more than enough targets to warrant one and that was all the reason she really needed.
A moment later, her own shotlock joined her Master's, as points of brilliant light headed for the smaller bees. How many would hit was another question entirely, but that was out of her control.
no subject
Very well! The alicorn swooped down on the highest-hovering bees, horn crackling with magic as she flung a wave of force at them. It wouldn't go much farther than them, of course; Luna had quite learned her lesson about wide-ranged spells in such a melee.
no subject
Nezha growled and leaped in the air, trying to land on the target she'd missed earlier. Yifan managed to get her claws on it but only left scratches down its side, enough to sting but not enough to damage, and she joined her spirit-sister in attacking the bee once more with a musical storm. Asami had almost reached her next target at a dead run when she saw the stingers starting to fire and- "Hit the deck!" -followed her own advice by falling to the ground and rolling. Hopefully those things didn't track...
no subject
"And stay close!" he snapped at it.
He managed an awkward catch of the potion Lea tossed to him, but didn't drink it immediately. Instead, he stared at it, as though he could see any adulteration by willing it. He couldn't, and this was costing him time he couldn't afford.
He fed that potion to his Pricklemane and pulled out one of his own concoction for himself. If it was poisoned, he would know soon enough. It did not appear to be; his Pricklemane bounced, rejuvenated, and attacked one of the small bees that strayed low to the ground. Even himself spared the concentration to split his spell, sending half the group of frozen daggers at each of a pair of bees.
>> Lin Beifong has joined your party!
The giant bee wasn't helping that part at all.
But perhaps Lin, late though she was, could help with it.
The ground shook, before three jagged spikes of rock jutted upwards out of the earth to form an awkwardly angled wall. Though not quite V-shaped, the intention was for the 'wings' to provide some semblence of (temporary) cover from the Queen while her lesser minions were dealt with. How well that would actually work out...well. Good or bad, the metalbender expected to have something left over to use for projectiles soon enough.
Looking up from where she'd planted her palm against the sandlot's surface, Lin grimaced as her Pricklemane companion promptly screeched and leapt into the fray: it had recognised Asami, and Yifan, and made a point to start spinning towards their targets, tail puffy and lashing out as best it could manage with the singular intent of knocking the buzzing bees down to their level.
no subject
On top of that, as soon as her bee minions start to go down, Queen Buzzerfly sends out another round of heat-seeking lasers. Lea, Stars, Bolin, Kyoshi, Asami, Nezha, Yifan, and Lin and her Pricklemane all manage to evade the ones closest to them, and Eraqus' shotlock and Luna's force wave destroy the ones coming for them. Unfortunately, Kura, and Even are both grazed, Aqua receives a solid blow, and Mako Jr. is hit hard enough to leave him in danger of going to pieces.
At the same time, the large jewel atop Queen Buzzerfly's head begins to flash from yellow to pink to purple.
no subject
He noticed the flashing and waved for Stars to come in closer. "Heads up guys, the jewel on her head is flashing!" Did that mean the toxic dust was coming or something else? He guessed they'd have to see.
no subject
And that was when a wild, ridiculous, insane idea occurred to her. She didn't wait to consider it, because she'd only have one chance at this, and she stood up to grab Bolin's shoulder to get his attention. "Bolin! Do you think you could get me up there?" And she pointed at the Buzzerfly's head.
no subject
"Someone try to entrap it so that it can't move!" he called. He knew at least Bolin was capable of using some powerful earth magic; either that or ice should be able to prevent the Queen Buzzerfly from moving. That way, they could hopefully hit it enough before it sent out another wave of minions. It seemed like Asami was heading that direction anyway.
Eraqus stepped back, preparing another shotlock should the opportunity for one arise.
no subject
"I am going to vivisect you and put the results on display as a warning to others!" he informed his Pricklemane as he tossed another potion at it. "I am going to nail you to a wall by your tail! I am going to never feed you again!" It squeaked disconsolately, a noise like a half-deflated balloon being trodden on. "Stay out of the way!" It skittered behind him, ears still drooping.
Almost positive that it wouldn't get between his spell and the Nightmare, Even threw another ice spell at its wings. Ideally, it would freeze to them and ground the creature. Not that anything about this day had been ideal so far...
no subject
"What's that mean again?" Bolin called out to Lea. He'd read Sora's notes but the information was drawing a blank now in the middle of battle. Bolin was distracted by Asami's hand on his shoulder and turned to look at her as she made her request. He looked from her to the giant bee and back. He bit his tongue and then nodded, "Yeah. Shouldn't be a problem. It'll be dangerous are you su---," he drifted off. What was he thinking? This was Asami. She was probably going to insist anyway. "Nevermind. Ready on the count of three."
While Even worked on freezing the bee in place, Bolin judged the trajectory of the launch. He would need to angle the pillar just right
"One...two...three!"
Bolin stomped the ground hard and simultaneously pushed his arms upwards. The ground beneath Asami shot up and, if she was ready, would launch her at the giant bee to use her glove and hopefully take it down...or at least weaken it.

But that didn't mean she was entirely out of options. It simply meant that she'd need to turn to another option; given that ice seemed to be the order of the day that offered a certain amount of choices.
The first order of business was a Cure spell to take care of the damage that the attack had done, but only moments later she offered up her own attempt to freeze Queen Buzzerfly in place. Sure, it was entirely possibly that Deep Freeze might not work in this case, but it was the best she had that didn't risk shattering anyone else's attempts and if it did work the extra damage would probably make any incoming attacks hurt more.
no subject
Lin had no idea what Asami or Bolin were planning, but the Metalbender trusted the pair to take care of themselves - for now. Flying ice did check her pace, however. ...Waterbenders? Then Lin shook her head. This was no time to be distracted, even if she'd never seen anyone utilizing weapons of that sort to manipulate water into ice before.
She did, however, recognise Eraqus' voice, and his suggestion was certainly sound. She'd leave the priority of attacking the head to others. "If they can prevent it taking off again with that ice, I might be able to manage something!"
That 'something' being an abrupt shift in her weight from one foot to the other, stance widened as she skidded to a stop in the sandlot dust. Both hands struck out and forward through the air, before forming tight fists that she drew back abruptly towards her shoulders, as though reining in some unseen force. A force that was then unleashed when she lifted her right leg, and then delivered a solid downward kick to the ground. In answer, thicker slab blocks fired upwards, attempting to crowd the Queen from the right side of the lot, and perhaps do some damage to her tail.
Meanwhile, after babbling at Nezha, Lin's Pricklemane resumed spinning - whether to be a distraction for the Queen Buzzerfly, or to hit any remaining minions was unclear. But spinning about had worked out pretty well so far! It couldn't hurt to keep that up, right? ...Right?
/sneaks a quick one in here
Of course Bolin wasn't wasting time, which was the right thing to do. Checking the glove in half a second to make sure it was as powerful as it could get, she crouched - when Bolin's pillar shot her into the air, she held on until it reached the peak of its trajectory, then jumped off, aiming to grab the Nightmare's antennae with one, preferably both hands. This would be so tricky to get right but it was certainly possible... It was impossible for her glove to kill something so big; the most she could hope was to stun it, but that would give the others a frozen, stationary target to hit if she could do it.

Her horn glowed as she summoned several large clouds from the surrounding sky, quickly arranging them into a large thick mass over the Buzzerfly's head. They were dark with rain, and she could have coaxed lightning out of them to strike at the thing...but then she saw Asami's ascent.
"What on earth?" The alicorn hesitated, then simply landed on her stormclouds to watch. If the Nightmare tried to come out this way, she could zap it. If Asami fell, she could abandon this post to catch her.

Even's ice spell hits subsequently, leaving a coating of icing on Queen Buzzerfy's wings. She's still hovering, albeit with some difficulty; however, she can't release toxic dust. She gears up for another attack when Eraqus' shotlock hits, all the individual attacks focusing on the flashing jewel on her head. The impact sends her reeling, shrieking in pain and fury, and it's not long before she sends out another round of heat-seeking stingers.

no subject
Of course, this made it so that she didn't really have time to do anything else before the next round of heat-seeking stingers, so she simply got ready to dodge as best she could, hoping that her shield spell would fend off the worst of the damage if any of the stingers came her way.
no subject
That done, she flew a wide sweep around the arena. Raising a basic shield was simple enough, but she also started gathering heat around her horn. Celestia was much better with fire and heat-related spells than she, but if she could attract as many of the heat-seeking stingers as possible, her shield could likely take most of the damage.
no subject
Damn it! He had not timed that well or maybe Asami hadn't launched herself from the rock right. Bolin gritted his teeth. He hoped that Aqua's Curaga spell would take care of her. On the plus side, at least the Queen Buzzerfly seemed to be taking a beating as well.
Seeing that Asami was taken care of, Bolin refocused his attention on defense. The heat seekers were coming back. "Kyoshi! Wall!" Bolin heaved up another rock wall and watched as his Kooma Panda did the same. Hopefully if anyone needed a barricade from the heat seekers they were close enough to benefit from his wall. Also he hoped it would hold up, but they were about to find out.
no subject
But then came those heat-seeking stingers, and those would be a real problem. And since the ice was helping keep Queen Buzzerfly still, they probably didn't need any fireballs thrown at the moment. "Kura! Behind me!" The Hebby Repp came scrambling back, with Jyunai close behind, and Eraqus cast a reflect spell as wide as he could. Hopefully that could ward off the stingers.
Since the shotlocks seemed to be working, he fired off another, hoping at least some bolts would hit home.
no subject
Others appear to be picking up the slack there, however, so instead, Lin concentrated on the fight at hand. A foot slammed down, causing more rock to protrude from the ground below her. She followed then with a solid kick, splitting the slab in half. Only then, with a forward sweep of her hands and a sharp fist strike, were the halves launched geokinetically at the head of the Buzzerfly to follow up on after Luna's lightning show.
One was a little high, the other a little low, but she was determined to make a dent of some sort.
Her pricklemane meanwhile had ceased spinning, and was now bounding towards the Queen, purple spikes taking on a red hue and the little creature becomes a lot less so. Once close enough, it made to leap up and scratch furiously at the Bee nightmare with both paws from below - ignoring, or perhaps simply frenzy-ignorant, of the spells being used around it.
no subject
His shield might be adequate, but then again... Even concentrated. A wall of ice creaked its way into existence, screening his right side. That was somewhat better, and would shield his Pricklemane as well. It might even confuse the stingers, if they were strictly heat-seeking. He threw a small ice spell at the Queen as well, one he hardly needed to focus on at this point.
"Stay. Close," he reminded his Pricklemane, adjusting his shield for defense.
no subject
Even before the healing was complete, though, Asami knew she couldn't stay where she was, so she rolled out of the way and more or less behind one of Lin's blocks. She was out of tricks, so now was the time to stay out of the way - not that that stopped Nezha and Yifan, Yifan literally dancing in circles and launched musical spells at the queen and Nezha tried to jump and pounce on it once more.
