2nd Key Smash
Who: Sora and Luna
Content: There's a reason Sora nearly blasted his hotel room with a Thunder spell the night Bruce figured out how to work the communictor...
Location: Sora's room and his dreams
Time of Day: What passes for night here
Warnings: Violence
Sora's dreams have been running a gamut from weird to silly to mildly disturbing to outright frightening. The weird and silly ones generally dealt with his friends and the fun parts of his adventures, when they were memories intruding on his dreams. The disturbing and frightening ones dealt, not surprisingly with the battles and the bleak situations. The straight up dreams tended to be more bizarre and much rarer. Mostly, his dreams since the Keyhole started appearing in everyone's dreams were memories. Like everyone else, he was seeing the Keyhole too, and experiencing someone or something, depending upon the individual dream, keeping him away from it. The majority tended toward the worst things he'd seen, often starting with his very first glimpse of the Heartless, which had itself been in a dream.
Most of the battles his dream memories covered were with the Organization, including some he couldn't remember when he was awake. In keeping with the fact that he was dreaming and the Keyhole was an insistent presence lately, it was the members of the Organization that were keeping him away from the Keyhole most of the time, often quite violently.
On this occasion it was Xemnas, as it had been on the night Bruce had figured out how to work the communicator. An outside observer not familiar with him might note that he bore a resemblance in build and features to Terra. However, the appearance differed in that his hair was silver, his eyes golden, his skin noticeably darker than Terra's and he wore the black coat of the Organization. The battle took place at the Altar of Naught, with the Keyhole appearing in front of the heart-shaped moon in the sky. Sometimes the battlefield around them shifted, showing the Nightmarish Abyss where Sora had had his last real battle with Xemnas or the chamber in Hollow Bastion where Sora had first battled Maleficent. He had also had his first battle with Xemnas there, though he was unaware of that as yet, that memory somehow lost along with those of Castle Oblivion. Still other times, the field shifted to a huge void of gray and white that seemed to stretch out to infinity. Basically, if Sora had encountered Xemnas there, the battlefield shifted to that, even if they hadn't actually fought there.
Not surprisingly, Sora was coming off the worst in this fight, if only because the nature of nightmares dictated that it be so. Probably, it was also because this dream Xemnas was fighting as he had when they'd fought for real in the white and gray void, a battle that Sora had not fought alone in the waking world. This was where Sora ran into his biggest problem...
“Can you spare a heart?”
'Damn.' Even though he knew what that question meant, because he knew he was dreaming and he remembered what had happened when that question had been asked in the course the real battle, he still couldn't avoid the attack that followed. He tried, hence the Thundaga he shot off in a vain attempt to keep Xemnas from taking hold of him and trying to take his heart by force. Normally, this was where he woke from this nightmare because he knew Riku wasn't here to save him this time. Normally.
Sometimes it went on a bit longer, both exaggerating the pain that attack had caused him and showing him what could have happened if he had been alone for the real battle. It is in this state, with his very life force being painfully drained from him, that a visitor to his dreams might find him...

This dream was also missing a moon, so the alicorn's dream-self manifested hovering in mid-air instead. This nightmare, at least, was much more straightforward than Ven's; with a single bright bolt, she blasted the man away from Sora, swooping down to interpose herself between the two as she studied the figment. "Sora! Good evening to thee." Golden eyes again, was that a common trait in their world? "Dost thou require aid?" A rather obvious question, as she was already there giving it, but blasting away phantoms never did anything to address the root of a nightmare.

A rather long series of visions played out here, a bit resistant to being dispelled. Some of them had a quality to them like Sora was seeing his own memories as an outside observer. The origins of other vision weren't quite as clear. There were some faces Luna would recognize, such as Riku, Kairi, Namine and Xion. Other would be strangers, such as Xigbar and technically Roxas, even if he does look like a perfectly clone of Ventus. Ventus himself, Terra and Aqua. A gray haired youth, also possessing golden eyes. Though he didn't seem to be appearing directly, Xehanort was mentioned. There was also one more battle with Xemnas.
Sora would not have chosen to allow these visions to play out, but his subconscious had other ideas.
At the end of it, finally able to acknowledge the visitor to his dreams and answer her question a good half hour later, Sora could only sigh. He could assume Luna's presence might be the only reason that vision, which he didn't normally see in conjunction with his first battle with Xemnas, ran as a memory rather than being twisted into a nightmare, not that the situation hadn't been nightmarish to begin with, "I think you've helped a bit already."
Now that it was done with, they were standing on the top of a stained glass pillar. Sora looked around, not sure what else to say. He doubted she'd settle for just helping a little bit, though. Then again, if it meant that much to her to help, he'd give any information that was needed for it. She only needed to ask.

"Oh, thou hast one of these also." She was referring to the stained glass platform, which she now began to pace as she studied the design on it. It was different from the one that appeared in Ventus's dream, but similar enough in concept to be clearly connected. "Is this something from thy home?" Before, she has accepted it as simply the subconscious being unusually straightforward with its symbolism, but for two separate minds to use the same unique form of expression was odd, to say the least. Maybe it was connected to the strangeness of the two dreams?

Her comment on the station cause him to look down at it. He'd never actually given it much thought other than wondering if it was just him. "You know, I'm not really sure. Where else have you seen it?"
no subject
"Thine is not the first nightmare we hath interfered in since arriving here. There are others with such...platforms, in their dreams." She was not prone to revealing details of dreams to others, without a dreamer's prior permission; how should any trust her to protect them if she did. Probably Ventus wouldn't mind, but that was a discussion for another time.

It made sense to him that she might have visited someone else's dreams to help them. She had told him she could, but he wouldn't pry if she didn't want to discuss someone else's dreams. "I couldn't say for sure if it's a regular thing or not. I know I do see it when my dreams have a lot to do with my heart, though."
Come to think of it, another such occurrence of the platform had been when he'd fought with Roxas. And Roxas had appeared in the string of visions that he'd just gone through. Had Luna noticed? It would have been kind of hard to miss him, given he was identical to Ven in appearance and voice. Only he'd been wearing the Organization's black coat there.
The fact of the matter though was that most of Sora's dreams lately had been memories twisting around to show him the worse outcome that he could have suffered. Usually. He was still pretty sure it was the interference of a friendly presence that kept that last string of visions as just memories. His heart did tend to respond to the presence of friends.

He could explain if he would; Luna wouldn't wrench it from him. "If thou likest, we can keep such nightmares from thee in the future," she continued. "'Tis really a simple process, we would not have to stay in thy mind over-long."

He knew that was only scratching the surface. There was so much more to go into and he still wanted and needed to discuss stuff with Ven. He did appreciate that Luna wouldn't pry for answers. Her offer to prevent further nightmares surprised him a little, though. Thinking on it, he realized it probably wasn't a bad idea. He couldn't properly help or protect anyone if he was too beat because of nightmares interrupting his sleep. "That sounds like a good idea."

Master Eraqus had been friends with Xehanort before, had he not? Luna wouldn't prod Ventus or Sora for information, but she felt much less compunction about pushing the older man. The alicorn lowered her head in a short bow of acknowledgement. "We shall do so, then."
no subject
Sora knew that Eraqus had known Xehanort. If they'd been friends, that was news to him. That was all beside the point for the moment. It felt a bit better to know that something could be done about the more unpleasant aspects of the dreams for now. Hopefully, others would be okay with such help. "Thanks."

That matter settled, Luna turned a curious gaze on the boy. "Thirteen? That is...a surprising amount." Evil would do what evil would, she supposed, but that was more Xehanort than even she would ever care to deal with on her own. What could he possibly need with thirteen vessels, which would doubtless take much effort simply to obtain? "Shall they all develop the golden eyes and dark coats?"

But it was no matter. Luna had gotten what she wanted: a way to identify Xehanort regardless of the body he stole. "Very well. We shall keep watch for such individuals in the future." She hadn't observed any other humans with golden eyes, after all, while skin and hair color seemed to vary more. "His vessels...dost thou know if they can be cleansed?"

Considering that Riku still seemed bothered by it sometimes, it was probably safe to say it had been difficult, and that wasn't even counting... whatever had happened when device of Ansem's had exploded.

"Nonetheless, we shall keep that in mind. If it can be done, it must be attempted." She dismissed the matter with a nod of her head - they didn't need to make a decision right this second, when nothing indicated it would actually come to pass.
