Epsilon had been doing his best to cheer up Allison. And it had really worked. But now? They were heading to the agreed upon meeting place to see York and Delta about not repeating that mistake. "Allison, I want you to stay back near me. You'll be safer. I don't want another accident... Got it?"

Allison made some happy noises at that. She didn't mind, and she was happy that her partner was going to work on his aim at least. Being shot hurt.

Once they arrived, Epsilon started checking over his weapon while he waited for York. Sniper rifle is in good shape, at least?

Epsilon eyed them at that. "So I can't just claim it's the sight anymore? Fuck." Well, nothing to do but take the gun back and start practicing, aiming for the target again.

After some time, York called a halt. "Okay, good enough for now." He had to wonder how Epsilon was a terrible shot; was that something that he got from the Director? The other AIs were pretty good with precision.

Epsilon just looked at York. "Who are we kidding? I still haven't hit anything... This isn't going to work."

York sighed and crossed his arms. "You ever tried to use a knife? I know that Wash...uh." Well, that was a great thing to say. Good job, York.

Delta spoke up. "Perhaps York is right and another weapon would be better suited to your style."

Epsilon eyed Church at that. "David was good with a knife. I remember that. Saw it before the storage unit... I could try it. You won't tell him?"

"I don't think he'd be too thrilled if I told him and I know he's keeping stuff from me, so I'm going to stick to never mentioning it to him, ever," York said. "...if you actually manage to hurt me, I guess I can get D to tell him."

Delta looked at York silently for a moment that stretched just too long. "I will not."

Epsilon makes a frustrated noise at that. "When is he ever thrilled about anything? But I'll keep that in mind. He never has to know." He looks down. "I don't want to hurt you, York. Even by accident."

"He used to get excited about things. The project didn't do nice things to any of us." York spread his hands. "Accidents happen, but we're going to be as careful as we can." Was it possible for an AI to need glasses? The Director wore glasses...

"Don't I know it." Epsilon looked away at that. "Accidents with my aim are too damn frequent, York. Is hurting you that far-fetched?"

"Stabbing is pretty up close. Hopefully you'd work the kinks out." Not that York is totally sure about this either, but 'don't go anywhere without a buddy' wouldn't be nice to say.

Epsilon can't help a nervous laugh at that. "You'd think so..."

"...or you could hide whenever there's fighting, if you're worried about injuring yourself and others." If it was that serious a problem, maybe he'd be better off staying with noncombatants.

Oh... That was the wrong thing to say. "I'm not going to cower behind someone else for protection, York. I'm not a weakling. I'll learn."

"Knife it is, then." Because he's not handing you explosives.

Delta spoke up quietly. "It's possible that the reason that Church has difficulty with firearms is because of our point of origin. The Director did not have any particular martial skill. We may be hardwired in such a way that it makes it difficult, or impossible, to properly shoot a weapon."

Epsilon couldn't help glaring at Delta for that comment. "So you're saying because of that asshole, I'll probably never be able to use a weapon properly?"

"It is a possibility. It should not hamper your ability with a knife." Delta flickered uncertainly.

Epsilon wasn't deterred by that. Actually, he was more stubborn because of it. "I'm going to learn to fight if it kills me. I don't want to have to depend on people to help me for the rest of my existence."

"Then let's get started," York said. Asking if Epsilon had ever thought about living a life where he wasn't fighting was not the right thing to say right now, even if York wanted to.

Epsilon nodded. "Before something happens to change my mind. Or Wash stumbles into us."
