Who: Namine and YOU
What: Namine takes some time to practice magic
Where: Traverse Town, Fourth District.
When: Sometime in what would be the afternoon
Warnings: None should be needed
Normally, Namine would have been one of the first to revisit Twilight Town when it opened again. She'd missed the chance to visit. Before she could, though, she'd seen the conversations on the communicators about possible new, more dangerous Nightmares. If that was the case, she should wait until others had verified the worlds were safe.
For right now, Traverse Town was safe enough and she hadn't been able to get out to practice her magic much. She knew she should practice her fire and lightning spells, since they were her weakest, but they were also her least favorite and the most difficult for her to cast. She decided to start with Blizzard. It was a good warm up.
Her new Iceguin Ace, Frosty, seemed to like it as well. When she froze a patch of ground, he dove and slid, Archimedes flapping in the air around him as if demanding why he was acting so undignified. It was so funny, Namine couldn't help laughing.

Frosty stood back to give the Pricklemane some room. He was usually pretty steady even on ice, but he didn't want to risk bumping into someone trying to be careful. Sliding was fun, but making someone go for a slide they didn't want wasn't cool.
Namine smiled at the Spirits and then looked up at Aqua. "I did. I was practicing some magic."
no subject
"It's very nicely done."
She hasn't had much of a chance to use her own magic for simple things, but she still remembers enough of it to know that Naminé's done a good job of it. And that the Dream Eaters are enjoying it as well certainly doesn't hurt. Even if not all of their respective Dream Eaters are taking advantage of the option.
no subject
"Thank you. You know magic, too?"
Namine was still at the level where she was still working on simple things. Ienzo had been a good teacher, though, so what she'd learned, she'd learned well. At least, she thought she had. It was nice to have that confirmed.

She's not surprised that most people don't seem to know, really. She hasn't been much involved in most of the more major battles lately, and most of the time, people don't seem to around when she's taking care of the smaller sort of of Nightmare. But she most certainly knows magic, given that it was one of the things that all three of them had been taught, so many years ago.
Besides, even if Naminé is still working on the small things, that's alright. Everyone has to start somewhere.

"Really? What kind of spells do you know? I know Blizzard, and Cure, and Thunder and Fire."
Mostly the basics, but yes, one had to start somewhere.
no subject
"The same kind, I think. If you were using Blizzard to make the ice patches, that is."
It's a reasonable assumption though, given the names of the spells and that's enough for a start.
no subject
"I was. I haven't quite gotten to Blizzaga yet."
Using the same names for spells was usually a hint of the same kind of magic.
no subject
"And if you wanted some help, I wouldn't mind helping. Even if it's just someone who you can practice with."

If it had been, she almost certainly wouldn't have even made the suggestion in the first place. That and she likes being able to help besides. It'll have to be a learning experience for the both of them, yes, but that isn't bad thing. Just something that might take a bit more work, all around.
no subject
"Then...Do you mind if we start now?"
no subject
"Is there anywhere you wanted to start?"
no subject
no subject
"Mmmm. Those ones can be hard. But there are other spells, if you don't want to use those ones."
no subject
"I know Cure, and Reflect, and Gravity, too."
Not a long list by any means, but at least she has a few she knows.
no subject
"All good spells. But if it's really Fire and Lightning that you want to know more about, I'll do what I can."
no subject
"I probably should work on those. I might need them someday."
Objectively, they were very pretty, useful spells. It was too bad Lightning had bad associations due to Larxene, and Fire, well...She hadn't seen Vexen burn, but the echo in Sora's memories had been enough.

It makes no real real difference to her one way or the other. Sure, there's a difference in how she'll likely be going about it, but that's no surprise. They're different spells after all, and even if the basics are the same, bringing about each effect is very much not.

Possibly due to her improved relationship with Axel before arriving in the Realm of Sleep, and Lea having been here for a while, she had a greater affinity for it. Mostly her problem was in actually using on Nightmares. Focusing too hard on trying to cast the spell and visualizing something burning did bring up unpleasant mental images more often than not.

There's a moment of consideration as Aqua takes into account the place their standing and figures that it should be safe enough for fire practice. There aren't exactly a lot of nearby targets to aim at, but they'll work things out, she figures.
"Can you show me what you've managed so far? Or tell me, if you'd prefer."
no subject
Once she had the image firmly in her mind, Namine raised her hand and spoke. "Fire!"
A small ball of flame arced from her the box, not catching it on fire but at least charring a portion of it respectably.
no subject
"That's good."
It'll take work to get to not be something that Naminé needs to think about, no doubt, but it is a good start all the same.
no subject
The concentration required was one of the pitfalls of Fire. It took so much for Namine to summon up enough flame to char part of a box. She'd chosen that as a target specifically because it wouldn't feel any hurt, but it was still difficult. Oh, well. At least Aqua had seen what she could do. "Maybe I have to want something to burn for the spell to work?"
no subject
"Maybe?" she answered with a shrug. "But even most of the fire spells I know don't actually set things alight, most of the time."
There's a different spell for actually setting enemies on fire, and Naminé hasn't actually mentioning having heard about that one. Not, of course, that Aqua had asked for a full list of what she'd been told about, but she'd have almost expected that it would have come up under the circumstances.
