Training time (open)

Who: Kanji and anyone who runs into him!
What: Training time for Kanji and his duo
When: Sometime after the fourth wall business
Where: Around Traverse Town, ending at the Fourth District
Warnings: Nothing so much?

Kanji wasn't much of a magic user. Okay, so perhaps he'd had to step into that position during the skirmishes with Nightmare Moon, but he'd never had the power to keep it going, never had the force behind his attacks some did. It was his own strength that he trusted most, and it was that that he wanted to work on, right now.

With his Dream Eaters by his side, he was working his way around the town, checking out the usual spots for Nightmares to be found; Plum and Jet (as the Meowjesty had come to be known) taking care of business with their usual speed, and with various treats being thrown around at the end of it all... they deserved it.

In the end, he could be found in the square at the bottom of the hill in the Fourth District. Around the place, some of the barrels and crates that seemed to be omnipresent, piled up. (And a few with Nightmares' - or even Nightmare Moon's - face drawn on them.) While the Spirits were playing on the steps - time for a bit of target practice.
With his typical yelling, he rushed the barrels, swinging his shield around viciously - but not with any regard for what it was supposed to be, not with any finesse, just another blunt instrument to be wielded. How long before any of his targets broke under the onslaught? Not the most elegant training method, but ...
...well, he'd make do.

"Not bad." Wash surveyed the wreckage of the additional two barrels. "One thing you need to watch out for: if you miss a swing, the followthrough will leave you wide open." He looked at Kanji's Spirits, addressing them. "Which is why you guys need to watch his back.

"Aside from that, if you can get used to it, I think we have a winner."

It sounded like an affirmative from the Spirits, and Kanji seemed happy enough, so it was good enough for Wash. "Well, either you can abuse a few more barrels or we can go Nightmare hunting." He was not about to offer to spar against a warhammer. Uncertain status in the waking world aside, Wash did not have a death wish.

"Sure." There were plenty of other ways to learn to use a weapon, but Kanji didn't seem the type. "I'll cover you." Long-range cover was probably a good idea with someone who was very enthusiastically only just learning to use a freaking warhammer.

Wash glanced at the shield and shrugged. "Either strap it on your back or I'll take care of it."

Fighting Nightmares wasn't exactly the vacation Wash had wanted - it certainly wasn't mindless - but it was better than anything else he'd had to deal with recently. Kanji was easy to keep track of in battle (the loud ones always were), so it wasn't too hard to stay out of his way and cover him from a distance.

As it was, they'd cleared out the fourth, third, and second districts. A break was in order. He gave Melody and Carmen each a cookie before pulling a potion out of a storage compartment - "Hey. Catch." - and tossing it to Kanji.
