Dreaming Wide Awake [Fourth Wall/Open]

Who: Everyone! Current characters, fourth wall characters, whoever wants to show up.
What: The portals are closed. Everyone's in Traverse Town, including a whole bunch of new people. This should be interesting.
Where: Traverse Town
When: Throughout the day
Warnings: Depends on the characters. Expect language at least.

You didn't expect to be here. You really didn't. The technicolor buildings are a surprise, as is the little white flying bear telling you you're in the dream world. He gives you a bag full of what looks to be currency, enough shiny things to create a creature of your own (or so he says), and sends you on your way.

Good luck.

Ammy stepped closer, and sniffed at the offered handkerchief. It definitely had a wolfish scent to it, but it wasn't one she recognized. Again, she took a step back and shook her head no.

Benton nodded, rubbing his eyebrow with a thumbnail as he considered. On one hand -- well, the wolf certainly seemed friendly. On the other, there was a slight communication barrier, and if she was as smart as she seemed, it must frustrate her.

"Thank you kindly," he said, reflexively, and re-settled his hat on his head. "Now, I don't want to take up any more of your time, ma'am, but if there's anything I can do for you...."
yabigfurball: (Hmmm what's this?)

Sometimes the lack of direct communication was frustrating...but that was mostly because it served as a constant reminder of her absent celestial envoy. But she had her own ways of 'talking,' anyways.

Speaking of, she may as well ask him if he had any Spirits yet. With things being weird as they were, Ammy got the feeling they'd probably be important to anyone new. For that, she pulled out one of the pieces of paper she always kept with her, set in on the ground and began to paint. As she was using the celestial ink in her tail, it would appear to anyone else that the ink was drawing itself onto the page.

Once finished, she held up the page to him:

For a wolf, the painting was remarkably expressive. Fraser's eyebrows shot up.

"I don't have either of those creatures with me," he answered, reaching out to take the photo. A cat? Or was that a dog-- and a bat of some kind....

Ammy barked to him again once he examined the painting. He should get one of them! They would help to keep him safe.

To demonstrate, she also pulled out some spare dream pieces that she'd collected from fighting Nightmares, and tapped at them. You made a Spirit out of these.

Fraser frowned. "Are those for... buying one of those creatures?"

He held the painting out to her again, turning it to show the blank back. "I'm sorry, but can you write?" She seemed to understand English, and without knowing her as well as he knew Dief, charades was a painfully slow way to communicate.

Ammy shook her head no. The money here looked different, although technically speaking you could buy the pieces with money. But without Issun, charades (and paintings) were her normal form of communication.

Ammy looked a little worried. While she could understand what people said, writing it was another matter entirely. She'd learned enough of the English alphabet to be able to (messily) write her name in it, but not enough to construct proper sentences. Maybe she should spend some time trying to learn more of it...

But for now, maybe she could get lucky and he'd know her native language in Nippon. She concentrated on the page, and painted again. This time, she wrote 'You put the pieces together' in Japanese. Whether he could read that was another matter.
lickedthat: (what was that?)

Oh, that was Japanese, wasn't it? Fraser squinted at the smooth brushstrokes. It did make use of the occasional Chinese character.

"Fragments," he muttered to himself, tapping the first one, and then, "join... so I have to put something together to get one of those creatures?"

Perhaps it was a sort of test, solving a puzzle, or building a key of some kind. His squint deepened into a frown as he turned over the possibilities.
yabigfurball: (What the heck's that?!)

[personal profile] yabigfurball 2014-04-17 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, it didn't look like he could real it completely, but perhaps he could understand just some characters? That was encouraging.

She barked back in affirmation. Yes, he had to put the different pieces together to get a Spirit!

"I'll have to experiment," he said, and smiled at the (Japanese-speaking? Were there any wolf species native to Japan?) wolf. "I'm very grateful for your assistance, ma'am. Is there anything I can do for you?"

Ammy thought for a bit, but finally just shook her head and gave a smaller bark meant to mean 'no.' She had been here for awhile, and was doing all right! All right as one could do when stuck in a realm of dreams, anyway. She was mostly concerned for others, especially anyone new.
lickedthat: (thank you kindly)

Fraser tipped his hat politely at her, smiled, and set off with firm stride to uncover what, exactly, was going on.
