Dreaming Wide Awake [Fourth Wall/Open]

Who: Everyone! Current characters, fourth wall characters, whoever wants to show up.
What: The portals are closed. Everyone's in Traverse Town, including a whole bunch of new people. This should be interesting.
Where: Traverse Town
When: Throughout the day
Warnings: Depends on the characters. Expect language at least.

You didn't expect to be here. You really didn't. The technicolor buildings are a surprise, as is the little white flying bear telling you you're in the dream world. He gives you a bag full of what looks to be currency, enough shiny things to create a creature of your own (or so he says), and sends you on your way.

Rory buried his face in his hands for a moment, expelling the deep sigh he'd been holding in. Maybe if he took a deep enough breath this technicolor world and the white flying bear would go away.

Another breath and he drops his hands.

And the bear is still there holding out a bag to him. Rory doesn't know what else to really do so he takes the bag and mutters, "Thanks...I think."

He knew he should listen. That anything might be a clue as to how to get out of here and back to Amy, River, and the mystery of their daughter...but he was still processing. Finally he shakes his head, focusing on the bear.

"Right...sorry. Could you repeat that again please?"

A few minute later Rory is wandering away and picking at the contents of the bag. He doesn't particularly pay attention to where he's going either.

Fortunately for Rory, there's at least someone around who might have the answers. Somewhat less fortunately, he's rather run right into that someone. Not that he minds - it'll take more than a simple collision to put him off his stride - but it's most certainly not something that he can say that he'd expected.

His Pricklemane, meanwhile, starts nosing around at Rory's ankles. New people are always worth some amount of interest!

"Ah, hello. But I really wouldn't have thought the contents of that bag would have been quite so interesting."

Rory stumbles back, "Sorry!" He really should have been paying attention anyway. He looks back down at the bag and finds that nothing has spilled out thankfully. It's while he's looking down that he sees the strange cat-like creature.

He looks like he wants to say something, his mouth dropping open as he looks up to the man with the longest scarf Rory has ever seen. "Uhm...hi," he holds up the bag, "Right, sorry about that. I don't suppose they really are...at least, if they are I don't see it. I mean...they're supposed to make some kind of creature, right?" His eyes fall to the cat again, "I guess something like that?"

Strange is a very good description of it, yes. The Doctor isn't really certain what to make of it so far, but it's mostly harmless and is generally inclined to listen and that's almost nearly everything he asks for. About the only thing that would be better is if he could train it to ask questions, but that seems to be a little beyond it's capabilities.

"Part of what's in there does, yes. The rest is mostly basic supplies. The sort of thing a wayward traveler might happen to need."

"Right. But we're not exactly traveling anywhere. I heard we were kind of stuck." It wasn't exactly new for him. However, this was the first time he'd been given a "welcome basket" and instructions from a floating bear-thing. Also no access to a way out was troubling, but like most things Rory had a feeling it would work out.

"Not traveling in the traditional sense, no. But you would have had to go somewhere to get to a Realm of Dreams. Even if that somewhere is only to sleep."

The no way out is a little concerning, but there's always something that can be done. It's just a question of figuring out what that something happens to be.

"Hello!" Souji called, stepping hastily out of the way of the distracted stranger. He did look unusually upset -- but hadn't he seen this all before? Hadn't they simply all been dragged back to Traverse Town? Souji had been in that twilight city hardly an hour ago, and then...

"Is everything all right?" he added, leaning worriedly in to blink at the other man. "Excuse my interruption. What world were you in?"

Rory is taken aback. Most likely because he hadn't been paying attention and this man took him completely off guard. He looks from his bag to the man and back. "I'm just...lost is all. I was on Earth...but usually there's a TARDIS involved in getting me anywhere else and...well there wasn't this time."

Rory holds up the bag, "And then I'm given this thing and told I'm in a dream world," pause, "again." Okay, so maybe the Dream Lord thing hadn't actually been another world, but it had felt real enough hadn't it? Possibly a dream within a dream within a dream at this point considering that particular time line had gotten rebooted.

"You were on Earth?" Souji says, eyes widening. "On Earth, in this dream? How did you get there? I thought we could only find our way to strange worlds here!"

He bounces onto his toes, still a handsbreadth shy of the other man's height, and adds excitedly, "I was in Kyoto last, but I first found myself in this city-- well, it hasn't been too long, but if there's a way back home--"

With a blink, he stops mid-sentence.

"What's a TARDIS?"

"Uh...no not exactly. I mean I wasn't dreaming before now," he says it hesitantly. He at least didn't THINK he'd been dreaming before now. How could he tell anyway? This didn't even feel like a dream.

Rory's a little put off by the other's excitement. He doesn't get it. Rory decides to focus on what he does know. "It's a spaceship basically."

Well -- that's that, then. No way to see home after all. Souji sighs, deflating as he considers the other man's words.

"I suppose you must be new then," he added, clasping his hands behind his back, and smiled. "I'm Soujirou. What's a space ship?"

"Rory," he replies, relaxing a bit as the conversation seems to progress. "And yeah, I'm new."

Oh this was going to take more to explain than he thought. Rory considered how to explain a space ship. He decides to go with the obvious. "It's something you use to travel to different planets and things."

"Other worlds? -- There was a door here that could do that," Souji says thoughtfully. "I'm not sure exactly where it might have gone. I'm rather new myself, you see!"

Now that takes Rory by surprise. "There was? Just a regular door?" He's never heard of such a thing, but he's learned with the Doctor that things can be stranger than you'd imagine.

"Oh...so it's not here anymore then?" That's just great.

[laughingsword]

"A sort of door, anyway!" Souji wrinkles his nose, considering. "I don't know exactly how to describe it, but it could take you to any of a handful of places, depending on which one you were thinking of.

"But it's not where it was. I suppose we'll have to find out where it's gone," he adds.

"It's a bit much to take in, isn't it?"

Might as well check out all these new, sudden arrivals. Take his mind off Certain Things. He likes distractions! And avoiding the problem. ...And avoiding Donna, for that matter.

Harkness the Hebby Repp doesn't have any understanding of the problem, but he hasn't been this nervous around his master since the dreams were doing their worst. Still, he slinks slowly behind his master, keeping an eye out for any trouble.

Rory turns to face the new voice. The bag's contents could wait.

"Yeah. Just a bit," Rory replies. He sounds a bit exasperated at all of this. But, he still seems to be in fairly good spirits though.

Rory notices the Hebby Repp. "Is that one of those Spirit things the little bears mentioned?"

Harkness darts quickly from Rory's sight, or at least he tries to. Kind of hard to hide when you're so brightly colored and all. The Doctor just stares down at his Hebby Repp like it's lost its mind. "Yeah... Normally he's a bit more sociable." He peers back at Rory. "I suggest you make yourself something, unless you've got any weird magic skills to protect yourself with. These Spirits are pretty good for personal defense."
