Dreaming Wide Awake [Fourth Wall/Open]

What: The portals are closed. Everyone's in Traverse Town, including a whole bunch of new people. This should be interesting.

You didn't expect to be here. You really didn't. The technicolor buildings are a surprise, as is the little white flying bear telling you you're in the dream world. He gives you a bag full of what looks to be currency, enough shiny things to create a creature of your own (or so he says), and sends you on your way.

Kanji was possibly not the best representative of humanity available in the near environment. But he'd have to do.

"Guess you just got here, huh..." he commented, hands shoved in his pockets, pretty casual about it all.

Rainbow blinked, then frowned at the creature. "...Okay, what the hay are you? You look like a baby dragon grew up into a giant ape."

"Who're you callin' a-" He pauses as he suddenly realises. "...uh. Crap. You probably ain't met any humans before, have ya? Yeeeah - first thing you need t' know, most'f the folks around here are like me." Or, at least, close enough. Armour and magic and all the rest of the little details? Those would likely be best mentioned later.

Rainbow dropped down to peer at him with very little respect for personal space. Then she zipped around him to get a good look at him from all sides, still trying to put together just what she was seeing.

"This is some crazy prank of Pinkie Pie's, isn't it."

"Nah. Nothin' to do with her." Defensively, he folded his arms, glaring somewhat back at her - dammit, pony, lay off! He'd cut her some slack, given the situation, but still... "You a friend of hers, then?"

"Everypony is a friend of Pinkie's," she said, peering at him suspiciously again. "How do YOU know her?"

Kanji shrugged at her first comment: fair enough. She had him there. The second... now that was harder to explain.
"I don't know her that well, but she's been around here a while, I think. She ... threw a party a little while back 'n I went along. ...We got involved in some stuff about a week back, too." He scratched his head. "It was kinda a mess."

"Whoa, hold on! Back up a moment!" Rainbow said, having interpreted his hesitation and lack of information in a fairly poor way. She loomed a bit closer, aggressively. "What kind of a mess are you getting my friend into?!"

Rainbow's own display of aggression was enough to set Kanji off. He glared, shifted defensively - and his volume jumped straight up the scale. "Hey, hey!" he just about yelled, hands thrown up. "I ain't getting her into anything. She got into it herself. Well, so did I, but ... I was helping her, alright? There was a big fight. Some big - ugh, d'you know about Nightmares yet? One'f them."

"Nightmares? Like, the kind you have while you're asleep?" She frowned, because she had no doubt he DIDN'T mean that. "Or Nightmare Moon?"

After all, what else would be a big, bad Nightmare that would result in a big fight?

Wait, she-? Well. Okay, that helped there, anyway.
"You know her, huh. Well, the answer's both. Did you get the message? This is all a dream."

Rainbow turned this over in her head, trying to make sense of it.

"But that doesn't make any sense. Even if it's a dream, we defeated Nightmare Moon a long time ago. Princess Luna has been fine ever since. Why would she come back?"

"Dreams don't make a lot of sense." He shrugged. "I don't think it was the original version. When I said it was a Nightmare, that's because they run wild around here. They're actual creatures. She was one of 'em."

Rainbow frowned. "It REALLY doesn't make sense. How could you beat her without the Elements of Harmony? Even Princess Celestia couldn't take her on without using them."

"Yeah. About that." Kanji fiddled with his - mundane - necklace for a moment. "We've got those here too."

Rainbow stared at him for a moment -- then rolled backwards in midair, waving a hoof as she began to laugh. "You really had me going there for a minute! Did Pinkie Pie put you up to this, or did you come up with it yourself?"

What? Oh, don't you start, girl! Kanji threw his hands up - "Hell no! Why would I lie about somethin' like that?"

"Because even I know my expression must've been priceless!" Still laughing, she swooped up to give him a friendly whack on the shoulder. "Good one, though. So where are the girls, anyway?"

Grumble. Grumble. Okay, he'd find a way to prove it to her, he told himself, no problem. All he had to do is get over to Ponyville...
For now, though? At least she was being friendly, even if the not being believed hurt. He sighed - "Pinkie, hell if I know. I figured you just had to listen for the giggles. Rarity runs a boutique across town, I can show ya where it is? There's the Princesses too, but I don't know any other actual -" full-time- "ponies around here."

"Wow. Well. I sure can't deny that you know both of them." He'd pretty much nailed them in one each. "Wait, the Princesses are here? Which ones?! You're not counting Twilight as one, are you?"

"Who's Twilight?" he asked, confused. Had he heard the name off anyone? He might have, but he wasn't sure. "One of your gang? Nah, I mean the two big ponies. Wings 'n horns. I heard someone calling 'em Princesses... did I get it right?"

"Twilight Sparkle. She's one of our friends too. She just became a princess recently... There are four Equestrian Princesses if you count her. The others are Princesses Celestia, Luna, and Cadance." It felt weird, explaining things that everypony knew.

Ah. Yes, now that sounded familiar. "...Celestia 'n Luna, I think. I haven't exactly talked to 'em much." He shrugged. "Congrats to your friend, though. Damn."

"Wooooooow. I can't believe the Princesses are here." That was mind-blowing, pretty much the literal equivalent of the sun and the moon being in the wrong place. "You mean nopony can get back home?"

"Nobody, nopony, no-one." Kanji sighed, slowly. "Well, not by lookin' for a way out, though. You guys're lucky, though. There's kinda a copy of your place around here. ... If you believe me on that one," he said, grumbling slightly.
