We Remember Our Bedrooms

Who: Roxas and whoever
What: Looking at Rooms
Where: Twilight Town
When:  Sometime, afternoonish
Warnings: None I don't think.

Of all the worlds available, and despite the memories it held, Roxas still found Twilight Town to be his favorite.

It was familiar, and well, the closest thing he had to a home. While he didn't mind the Dalmatian's mansion, it was in Traverse Town, and that held other memories. Memories that Roxas couldn't lay claim to. At least with Twilight Town, the memories were his, real or not.

Which brought him to today's mission, one that he had somewhat been avoiding. He had to know, did his room still exist? Was it still there, as he remembered it? Was it just an empty space? Or had it never really existed in Twilight Town at all. As much as it scared him, he had to know.

"You are a native of some version of Twilight Town, then?" Jeeves raised a brow as he looked over at the youth. "Where have you been living, if not in your previous residence here?"
juniorganymedian: (i really don't know)

"It is the habit of young men on my own world to strike out on their own to find new residences when they come of age," Jeeves noted. He was tempted to ask what made Sora an unsatisfactory roommate, but he suspected he would learn very little and cause Roxas to become defensive. "It would seem to make sense to wish for one's own space, particularly if there might be one you claimed before. Was your family here, as well, then?"
juniorganymedian: (this is all most peculiar)

"Really?" The valet's brows went up. Roxas had been of particular interest to Jeeves in his ongoing review of the archives. The young man seemed less inclined to use the communicators than some of the others, though. Jeeves had gathered that there was a mansion here that Roxas had a connection to, one that he feared. Or had feared at last mention to the public. "May I ask what caused your departure? When not in the Realm of Dreams and populated by Nightmares rather than people, it seems like it would be a most pleasant and peaceful locality."

"A false memory?" Jeeves pressed. He didn't want to completely upset the youth, but he was also incredibly curious. The archives contained some sort of story about this, but piecing it together in any sensible order was a challenge. "Is it to do with the mansion in the woods?"

Jeeves feigned a small amount of embarrassment for effect. "My apologies, I should not have... I had seen something about it in the communicator archives. It seemed most mysterious."
juniorganymedian: (most disturbing)

"That must have been a very jarring transition." He meant it honestly, feeling a touch of sympathy for the youth. "Who told you everything you knew was false, though?" Someone who either wanted to upset Roxas or open his eyes to the falsehood of his world, likely.

Either side of that would be unkind if Roxas was enjoying his life here, but one had more malice inherent in it than the other.
juniorganymedian: (are you people srs?)

Jeeves was trying to keep up with the terminology, still being a man from 1925 and having very little idea how computers or digital things even worked. "It was a constructed world like one of the ones Master Sora has been to, then?" he asked. "Please forgive me my ignorance, but how can one even come to enter into such a reality?"
juniorganymedian: (but i'm being nice)

[personal profile] juniorganymedian 2014-03-19 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
It was a frustratingly vague explanation, but perhaps there were others who might be able to provide more detailed ones. Naoto seemed to understand technology, and Sora, himself, could likely offer insight into the digital world that he'd encountered.

They were nearing the Sandlot as Jeeves continued, "I'm sorry you experienced such unpleasantness, particularly as regards a place you felt you knew. I hope that we might be able to locate your previous residence. What was your life like here, as you remember it?" No family, but perhaps there were fabricated friends?
juniorganymedian: (my name is jeeves)

Jeeves followed along, motioning for Kant to keep close. He'd come to distrust small alleyways in the Realm of Dream. So often they held unpleasant things - real and imagined. I had heard it mentioned by Ms. Xion in the archives that the sea salt flavor of ice cream here is particularly pleasing to the palate. Is it being sold by the Moogles stationed here?"

He glanced at the buildings as they walked, trying to gauge if any of them looked like acceptable living spaces from the outside. If he was to live in Twilight Town and Roxas' home was still here, Jeeves would prefer to have someone with magical and fighting abilities within easy reach for emergencies.

Jeeves stared at the blank wall for half a moment before turning his attention to Roxas. This was undoubtedly meant to be where his 'home' was. That it wasn't here at least gave some indication that they weren't in the digital world. Or at least not the one Roxas had been in. Cold comfort.

There were more questions Jeeves wanted to ask about the mansion now that they'd finished with dashing Roxas' hopes, but something to cheer the boy was required and the topic would likely need to be put off to another encounter in favor of lighter matters. "I would enjoy that, Roxas. If it's not taking too much advantage of your time, I'd also still very much appreciate any guidance you have about town after. There are several interesting landmarks I'd like to find the best routes to." Clearly one of those landmarks was missing, but that didn't mean all of them were. He could situate his preferred residence based on safe and quick routes.
juniorganymedian: (i like you a lot)

This seems like a good place to fade to black or happy to continue with a proper tour!

Jeeves took note of the boy's forced relaxation. It was a little hard not to, though the valet made an effort not to be too overt in keeping an eye on Roxas. "Thank you. I'm certain there are many places to offer a safe and comfortable retreat. Which way shall we go?" He motioned down either direction of the alleyway before adding with a brief, but bracing smile, "And please allow me to pay when we arrive. As thanks." And as consolation.

There was something about the boy that reminded Jeeves vaguely of one of his younger cousins or the nephews of friends he has assisted. Buying him ice cream would help to gain his confidence, but the valet found himself genuinely feeling for the boy and his troubles. He had no way to bring back something that was gone, but there had to be other ways to cheer him. Another look through the archives might help to figure out what that might be if this encounter failed to provide further insight.

Personally, Jeeves also thought that an overhaul of Roxas' wardrobe and a haircut would help ease the boy's mind, as well. He'd wait on those suggestions, though. Some young gentlemen were ever so attached to unfortunate articles of clothing or abhorrent styles.
