Well. This certainly wasn’t what you were expecting.

This part of the town is lit with street lamps and shop signs, illuminating the wooden structures and cobblestone streets. If it weren’t for the neon signs, you’d swear you’d landed in a small European town several centuries back.

The Moogle floating near the staircase leading up to the town’s item shop doesn’t help that illusion either. You may have already spoken with it; it’ll tell you where you are and that you’re in the realm of dreams, give you your starter package, and help you make your first Dream Eater. It will not, however, tell you how to get home. Sorry, but that’s not information it has, kupo.

Now that you’ve taken care of that, what will you do next? That is up to you.

Eraqus would definitely frown on someone using corridors of darkness, especially without any armor. Otherwise, that darkness would corrode away at the heart...if it wasn't already corrupted by it.

"Yes...although I imagine there's also some degree of interest or profit in it for them as well," Eraqus said, crossing his arms. He'd worked with moogles before (aside from currency, they had at least some hand in helping craft a Keybearer's armor), and they did seem meticulous that way.

Introductions did seem in order. "I am Master Eraqus. It is good to meet you." Perhaps he should name his Hebby Rep after a Master of old.

Well, Nobodies didn't have hearts to corrode or corrupt. That said, they did have to worry about the Darkness eating away at that aspect of their being. That's where Namine's even slight connection to Kairi's strong Light helped.

She'd never dealt with moogles, so she'd have to trust Eraqus's word on this. The concept of expecting something in return for a favor, though, was something she was familiar with. "I guess so."

"It's nice to meet you, too, Master Eraqus." It would have been nice to know more naming possibilities for Batty, but he seemed to like it, so that would have to be enough.

Eraqus sighed. "At the very least, I have never seen one be malicious." Sometimes they would obfuscate things, but were never mean-spirited.

His Hebby Rep (which he was now debating naming Kura, after a Keyblade Master of old), seemed to have gotten bored of these basic introductions. It traipsed off towards one of the doors exiting the district, obviously looking for something more interesting.

Unfortunately, it may have found something too interesting, as it immediately came wheeling back towards him, squeaking. Years of experience fighting left him with that prickly feeling of darkness approaching...they would likely have Nightmares coming their way soon.

Eraqus immediately summoned his Keyblade, prepared to fight. "It looks as if bad company wants to join in the introductions, too."

"No, they're usually friendly, aren't they?" Most of the moogles she'd seen in Sora's memories all seemed very willing to help, given the right materials and motivation.

Batty was getting a little bored himself, so he followed Kura...and came flying back screeching a warning as Kura wheeled back below him.

Nami couldn't sense darkness in others, and had little experience with animals, but she knew a warning when she saw or heard one. Her immediate reflex was to look for cover, the better to avoid being a hindrance or a burden. The cafe didn't offer much except for the tables, and if she hid under one of those she could easily be trapped.

She could at least do what she could not to get in Eraqus's way. When he drew his Keyblade, she stepped back in order to be out of range, Batty hovering protectively over her. "It does."

This is what he'd been afraid of…that the aggressive Dream Eaters here might hurt someone who was not prepared to defend themselves. While not specifically with Dream Eaters, he had seen this kind of thing happen before. At least here he could do as he'd been trained to for years…defend the light.

Around the corner came a couple Nightmare Komory Bats, Meow Wows and even two Hebby Reps. Quite a few of these things, but at least nothing too big. Kura (he decided that was its name now, although he'd have to call it as such), immediately began spitting fireballs up at the Komory Bats, eager to take down these Nightmares. Eraqus went in swinging at the Meow Wows that bounced his way. Hopefully, he could handle this without having to use his stronger spells, but just in case he mentally prepared himself for those, too.

Hopefully 'Batty' would be able to defend his owner, too.

Namine was prepared to defend herself--physical threats didn't scare her much. She just knew she wouldn't last long on her own in a fight. That said, Batty was proving to be one protective Spirit, hovering around her and waiting for the nasties to approach.

When Kura and Master Eraqus began attacking the Nightmares, Batty went into action. Choosing to stay where he was, he hit the Meow Wow's with Confuse, and then turned his sonic scream on the Hebby Reps. For her part, Namine did her best to stay close to Batty while dodging the Komory Bats that Kura had set on fire. They were too much in pain to do much attacking, but they could still hurt her if they got too close.

Batty's sonic attacks did a good job of confusing the enemies…quite a few of them circled down or bumped into each other, giving him ample time to finish them off with the Keyblade. Kura's fireballs seemed to freak out the Nightmare Meow Wows, which also began to flee and run into walls or the café tables. The Hebby Reps were battered by the sonic scream, but kept trying to charge.

One of them began to stray too close to Namine, and he immediately jumped in to deal it a killing blow with his Keyblade before it got to her. In the process, however, another Komory Bat was able to swoop in and catch him arm with its claws. It wasn't bad, but it was enough to make him wince.

Namine had tried to warn him about the bat, but it had attacked before she could speak. Fortunately, Batty swooped in to harry it away and try to see if a sonic scream could work on one of his own kind. Then it was time to regroup and face the remaining Nightmares, not that there were many left.

At this point, Namine would have run for cover if the cafe offered more of it. As it was, she did her best to stay close to Eraqus as she could without getting in his way.

The sonic scream did end up working, luckily for them. The attacking Nightmare, battered with sonic waves, eventually burst into pieces.

At least there were only a few of them left, relentless as they were. Eraqus kept swinging away, ignoring any other small attacks from the Nightmares. Kura even went into berserk mode, wheeling around and throwing itself at anything that came too close.

Finally, the constant fighting paid off, and all that remained of the Nightmares were a couple piles of dream pieces and munny. Eraqus breathed a sigh of relief, then gained his composure best he could before looking back at Namine.

"Are you all right?"

[personal profile] colorbymemory 2012-10-10 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, thank you. I'm okay." Namine was a little shakier than she wanted to admit, and Batty seemed to feel the need to swoop in to nuzzle her and chitter at her comfortingly. Taking a deep breath and relaxing somewhat, she reached up to pet him. "Really, I am."

A little bit calmer now, she looked around at what the Nightmares had left. Most of it she recognized, and she reached down to pick up a piece of munny. "We might need this later."

[personal profile] hiptobe_eraqus 2012-10-11 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Eraqus could see a bit of that shakiness, and put on his best stoic face. Now was the time to be the strong one here. Meanwhile, Kura continued to waltz around, very pleased with itself for having defeated the Nightmares. "Perhaps it'd be best to go inside."

He noticed what the Nightmares had left, and in his experience, all of this would be useful later...whether to buy food or more time at the hotel, or to use when making Spirits. "But after we collect this first."

[personal profile] colorbymemory 2012-10-11 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The stoic face was appreciated. Not because Namine needed it for reassurance so much as she was unused to any display of concern from strangers, and as such they tended to confuse and even fluster her. Kura's waltzing also had the (probably) unintended effect of making her laugh. When Eraqus suggested going inside, she nodded. "That might be a good idea. I don't think there will be as many of them there."

She helped him gather the munny quickly--Sora had memories of watching some left alone for too long simply fade. Best not let it go to waste. While she passed that to Eraqus, she kept hold of one of the dream pieces in order to get a closer look. "I wonder how many different kinds of Spirits we can make with these. "

[personal profile] hiptobe_eraqus 2012-10-12 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
"One would hope not."

Eraqus was a little confused about the laugh at first, until he realized the show that Kura was putting on. He gave the Hebby Rep a look as if to say 'you're not nearly as clever as you think.' He'd given similar looks to his students before, and they tended to get them to settle down quickly enough.

He regarded the dream pieces...quite unlike anything he'd seen left behind from creatures on any world. "I don't know. I suppose we'll have to take it to the moogles to find out."

He handed her back some of the munny. Even if she hadn't fought, she would need some anyway. And it wasn't as if her Komory Bat could use it, even though he had also fought.

[personal profile] colorbymemory 2012-10-12 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
The look Eraqus gave Kura wasn't one Namine had much experience with herself, but she knew what it meant from working with Sora's memories. Not content with just a look, Batty swooped down to chitter at Kura as if to remind him that he wasn't the ONLY one who had fought. Hebby Reps. They always had to act as if they were the best.

Namine nodded at his suggestion to ask the moogles. "They do seem to know a lot about what's going on."

The munny was accepted with some surprise. Not that she didn't appreciate it, or need it, but she really hadn't done much. "You're sure?"

[personal profile] hiptobe_eraqus 2012-10-13 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Kura took the looks and huffed a bit before finally settling down. It chittered back quietly and twisted its toes. Eraqus figured he'd teach him a little respect yet...for now, that would do.

"Enough to buy and sell, but not much more," Eraqus sighed. In his experience, it had always been that way.

"I'm sure. You will need it, and Batty did his part as well."

[personal profile] colorbymemory 2012-10-13 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
Batty seemed appeased by whatever Kura chittered back at him. He flew back to Namine and squeaked in excitement at the munny Namine held. It was so shiny, and there was so much of it!

"They seem to manage to be most places." Namine didn't have really any experience with Moogles, but knew a few things from what she'd seen.

Reassured, she placed the munny in her pouch, combining it with what the Moogle had given her. That would help towards another night at the hotel, or food for her and Batty. "Thank you."

Kura leaned up, wanting to see if perhaps some treats had been among the prizes they'd gotten from the Nightmares. However, this time he wasn't so lucky.

Eraqus smiled a bit. While a bit mysterious, this girl was sweet. "It is fine," he said, and looked towards the inn and shops. "Let's get indoors now."

Batty joined in the hunt for treats. Too bad there weren't any this time, but since their humans had munny, maybe come could be bought later.

Namine smiled back. "Okay."
