Alone in the Darkness

Who: Roxas, Emizel, and whoever dares enter Twilight Town
What: Experimenting with nightmares. For Science.
Where: Twilight Town
When: Sometime after the dreams start
Warnings: Copious amount of nightmares, Roxas's Hayner-worthy idea, and potential yelling.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

At least, that's Roxas's rational. Emizel had been worried that if they defeated all the nightmares, he'd be in trouble, so what better way to test if there was a connection than if they could get a lot of nightmares.

The plan was simple. Get treats, and then get the nightmares to follow them to a location, see if Emizel felt more energetic, and then fight off the nightmares before it got out of hand.

Roxas supposed he underestimated how many nightmares they could summon with a few treats, but they could manage, right? It's not like there were any big ones or anything.

They'd be fine.

"As you wish. My name is Jeeves." It wasn't an imposition considering the boy was neither royalty nor gentleman of standing. The valet followed after, Descartes swooping ahead with Bouncer to clear the way for them. "I wish our meeting had been under more favorable circumstances, though battle is a most excellent opportunity to observe a certain strength of character." He offered Roxas about as genial a glance as he ever gave while they moved forward. The boy's magic did impress, even if his sense left something to be desired, and it would behoove Jeeves to form some kind of alliance with someone who was clearly battle-capable.

They made it to the lot without any incident, and Jeeves began looking for a wooden bat. "What form does the bat take?" he asked Roxas. "I am most accustomed to the varieties for cricket and American baseball."

Jeeves could appreciate brevity in battle, at least. What he appreciated less was being handed a bizarre sort of toy and told that it was a weapon. The valet took one of the bats, mouth a thin line. He felt absolutely ridiculous, but many improvised weaponry would be equally humiliating. At least he's been assured this will work. "I'm sure it's as you say," he replied, pushing down his annoyance.

He stepped back and took a few experimental swings and thrusts with the bat before nodding to himself. "I believe that, as Virgil surmised, I am now ad utrumque paratus. Shall we be off to route the creatures?"

Jeeves tipped his bowler hat to Roxas in salute. "Good luck." He allowed the Spirits to go in first to halt one of the Tama Sheep that had appeared. Descartes darting around it proved an effective distraction. Enough of one, anyway, for Jeeves to stalk forward quietly and lay on a blow to it with the struggle bat. The creature bleated in surprise, which was immensely satisfying.

The valet had no great love of cruelty to animals, but the nightmares were hardly that, and ridding the world of such loathsome creatures was a good thing. He wasn't a particularly athletic man, but Jeeves was a large one, and it took only a few blows for the Nightmare to fall, turning into munny on the ground. How that even happened was still a mystery. At least no one else in the communicator archives seemed to have figured it out, either.
