Horns to the left of me, wings to the right.
Who: The pony princesses and those who would accept their training.
What: The training offered by the pony princesses to those who would accept it.
Where: Ponyville, the Town Square.
When: A couple of days after their welcoming message.
Warnings: Possible comedic violence and mild language. Possibly some pegasus just won't know what went wrong.
Ponyville Town Square, the right side as you face town hall:
Above this half of the town square, a couple dozen clouds floated peacefully in the sky. They ranged the gamut from a friendly, puffy white to an angry, solemn grey that threatened but didn't deliver thunder and rain in awesome amounts. Somepony had clearly cordoned off the ground below with acquired fences, benches, and other makeshift barricades to keep innocentRarities ponies from wandering into the training field and getting soaked, hailed on, lightning-bolted, blown away, or generally harassed by wind.
Princess Luna awaited those pegasi who have come for lessons in weather control.
Ponyville Town Square, the left side as you face town hall:
Dozens of random objects festooned the area around here, lined up in order of weight -- from feathers, pebbles, and quill pens to a heavy statue and a bathtub. Princess Celestia waited at the front of this 'line', such as it was, for those unicorns who signed on for her basic training program. Though she hoped that at least some will prove adept pupils at telekinesis and might be able to move on to other lessons, she has provided nothing else yet; after all, to best challenge a unicorn, you must find spells that lie within their talents.

He tried again, and this time he got a nice fluffy white cloud for his efforts. "Why does it feel like the cloud is solid?" he asked, poking the two he'd put together so far (and inadvertently pushing them together into a bigger one).

Soma, being inquisitive by nature (nevermind that the last time he'd exercised that particular bit of whimsy it had backfired massively), tentatively landed on top of his cloud. True to Luna's prediction it was quite solid and sturdy enough to support his weight, and didn't seem at all bothered by all the myriad laws of physics it was breaking in the process.
It was kind of a little mindblowing, really, when he thought about it.
...It was also comfy, and his wings were getting a bit tired, so he decided to stay there a while. "Clearly those school lessons in meteorology aren't going to be of any use here," he said, more than half to himself. "Since I'm guessing making bigger clouds is just a matter of pulling together more fluff, what's the next part of weather control?"

Practice makes perfect; he went about forming another cloud, compacting it a bit more, making it a bit more thunderhead-y. Of course it was only a foot or two wide at the most, but still, he rather liked the look of it.

Oh no you didn't. It's on now, fluffy!
This precipitated the second most intense staring contest Soma had been in within the past three days. There were squints; there were growls; there were, and I kid you not, funny faces, all to no avail.
By the end of the match, the cloud was definitely winning. Cumulonimbus: 1, Soma: 0.
Time to escalate this. Hope you brought popcorn, Luna.
His encounter with the witch had taught him something about himself and the nature of his power. It was rooted in darkness. But that didn't make it evil; Arikado and Mathais both had told him that. He couldn't change the nature of his power. But he could change the way he thought about it.
I accept this power; it is mine. I will control it; it will not rule me.
Lightning.
A bolt of scarlet lightning issued from the cloud, searing the ground where it struck and giving off a clap of thunder that was nigh-deafening at so close a range.
The lightning wasn't the only thing happening, though; Soma's mane and tail flickered with shadow, their color making it look more like smoke than true darkness, and though they couldn't be seen, his teeth were becoming decidedly more fang-like. For better or for worse, he'd made the decision not to hide what he was anymore.

"...most pegasi simply kick them as an aid..."

Unfortunately, that grin now included fangs.
"Well, this is awkward." Aaaand now he flops on the cloud. "Do you want the short version or the long, overly complicated one?"
For someone who probably just did something very reckless and unusual, he doesn't seem very self-impressed...
[Aaaand this is me kicking myself for not knowing even this much about MLP canon. *has never seen an episode* DX]

Soma arranged himself more comfortably on his cloud and made sure no one else was in earshot, before beginning. "My story starts about a thousand years ago, with a guy named Mathias Cronqvist. He was an alchemist and tactician. While he was away at war, his fiancee died from an illness - no one's really even sure what kind. Mathias, when he returned, fell into melancholy and pretty much declared war on God and man alike. To gain power, he subjected his best friend to a psychotic vampire, then stole that vampire's power when his friend killed it - becoming a vampire himself in the process.
"The Belmont clan swore vengeance, and they've hunted him ever since. Down the years, Mathias took on another name - Count Vlad Tepes Dracula - and at one time, he tried to settle down and remarry. His wife was burned as a witch while his son was forced to watch, and so he resumed his war against mankind. He's been defeated numerous times by the Belmonts and their whip, but he always comes back - and that's where I come into it.
"About 35 years ago, Dracula was defeated for good by the most recent Belmont, Julius. He destroyed the count's body and bound his cursed castle inside an eclipse, ensuring that it could never return to plague the earth. But Dracula's a lot more clever than the Belmonts ever gave him credit for; he chose three worthy successors at the moment of his death, and divided his soul between them. Unknown to him - unknown to anyone - a fourth was born about fifteen years later, and while the others only got a part of Dracula's power, I got the lion's share.
"My power - the Power of Dominance - gives me control over any monster or demon I defeat. Considering I was a normal kid, that wouldn't have meant much if I hadn't ended up inside the sealed castle; don't ask, I still don't know how it happened. The upshot is, I killed a lot of monsters and demons to get out of there, in the process fully awakening Dracula's shade within me. Usually when that happens, the person -becomes- Dracula. I didn't. I don't know why; maybe it's because his son helped me, maybe it's because I'm different, not even he knows for sure.
"Before I came here, I was on my way to confront the chaos that was corrupting my power, slowly turning me into Dracula. I don't know if I could have beaten it, but I was going to try; coming here put all that on hold, until I was injured in the fight with the Meta. The injury gave chaos a chance to get at me again, and I'd have fallen if I didn't have help overcoming it. And so, here I am now - more or less whole, and having accepted the power as my own, more or less in control of it. I'm not even sure what I am anymore - human, vampire, something in between, I can't even begin to guess."
He glanced over his shoulder at his still-smoky mane. "As for this, it's probably because I'm channeling one of the souls I absorbed - namely a Nightmare."
[Just to clarify - he's not talking about one of the Nightmares from KH, but the evil dream horse variety encountered in Castlevania. They're not a terribly common enemy in the castle, but there *are* a few of them running around, and their soul isn't a rare drop.]

"An eclipse is not the best place for that," she commented finally, "They always DO recur. But if his soul is divided, I suppose the point is moot. I cannot tell thee what to do with thine powers, but thou shouldst know that my native subjects may think ill of thee if they see..." She gestured at his mane. "...that. It speaks of dark and powerful magic, in a pony."
Which, she supposed, was rather accurate in this case. Still, he wasn't using it for evil, so she could let it go. Different worlds had differing magic, after all. "If you require aid with controlling your powers at all, I imagine I or my sister could provide such." Mostly herself, but she didn't want to get into her reasoning behind that.
no subject
"I think it was more that was the only place they could put it, actually. There's some pretty heavy magic involved, I won't pretend to know all of it, but anyplace the castle turned up before was enveloped in an endless night. It had to be someplace where the light of day would always surround it, but never quite touch it. Plus, eclipses are predictable, and they could keep agents in the area where one was going to pass over. It wasn't a perfect solution, but it was the best they could do. It probably would've worked, if I wasn't the
boyfriendbest friend of the shrinekeeper's granddaughter."All that aside, what he was doing now was most definitely not intentional, and he made a conscious effort to rein it in (so to speak). "Dark and powerful pretty much covers what's inside me, but I'd really rather not advertise it. As for controlling it... there's really not much more I can do, aside from finding some way to confront chaos itself. I was kind of on my way to do that before I ended up in the dream world."
no subject
"What art thou intending to do?"
no subject
"I was planning to look around for this world's keyhole a bit later, maybe give the local nightmares a seeing to while I was at it so I have some combat experience in this body when the time comes." He ran a quick mental inventory and added, "I was also hoping to pick up a weapon a little better suited to my current size. Everything I have right now is over six feet long."
no subject
"Never mind it. Have you brought any of your weaponry here? Agent Washington's gun transformed into something more appropriate upon entering." It had been a slingshot, but never mind that. He was probably using swords or some such anyway, at that length.
no subject
Suddenly there was a very, very large sword sticking out of the cloud beside him, every bit of six feet long and positively radiating holy power. On the other side was a spear, about the same length, with an ash shaft, golden accents, and a blade that crackled with electricity. Aaaand in front of him, a dinky little pocket knife. "These are what I have with me. I lent a shorter blade to someone else; it may be high time I got that one back."
