Jaime had heard Chief Beifong's announcement go out over the network. He'd been restless ever since he'd heard about the expedition to the Mother of Invention. Knowing things that might affect him and his ability to get home were happening without him... it was maddening.

So, even though he didn't think he'd have much to add to the experiment, Jaime and his pricklemane (he'd named it Virtue) responded to Lin's summons. Better than than being alone. Except for Lin, he didn't recognize anyone else who had already arrived.

Virtue wasn't shy, though. In fact, the Spirit bounded ahead of Jaime to greet those who were already there.
